E92 335i Vs M3
Heres the dilemna, I'm looking for an E92 M3. I found a 2009 335i for a really good price, I am definitley planning on modding the 335i, tune, exhaust, prior design bumpers, side skirts, etc. Do you guys think I should buy the cheaper 335i and put money into it, or buy the m3 and keep it stock? With all factors in play, performance, speed, costs, reliability, etc.

Test drive both and see what you enjoy more and buy that one.

Ok another thread! M3 vs 335. In the long run it will cost more to compare an M3 in terms of speed and handling than you will spend to make the 335 get there. Ive only been here 3 months and have seen 10 of these threads. If you cant afford the M3 or rather dont want to spend the money so be it. Do not try to justify spending less to make a car as fast as thats relative.

+1 Since you aren't planning on supercharging the M3 i'd say get the 335i. Stock M3 compared to modded 335, 335 wins in my opinion.

Agreed. A 335 can be modded to slaughter a stock M3 in a straight line, but not everything in life is measured in a straight line.

Most of these N54 fan bois like to list $20k of mods then say STOCK M3s are slower than Hondas. To properly compare the M3 and 335 compare what mods you can do to the 335 and keep it cheaper than the M3. A modded 335 will always be faster than an unsupercharged M3 in a straight line but not in the turns. Supercharge the M3 and it will be faster in a straightline and in the corners. |

This setup would still cost less than a bone stock M3, and be a better all-around performer, not to mention the mountain of torque you would have for city driving. |

As you are buying a used car, get the one that is in the best shape mechanically and structurally, regardless of whether it is the M3 or 335. Your mechanic can tell you which one is better in that regard.
You can mod a 335 to make it go as fast as an M3. The E9x variant of M3 (I don't know what E-number that M3 has) is a good car to be in as a daily driver, but it's fuel economy is a good deal worse than the 335's, though if you have a light foot, it'll be tolerable. (Somehow though you don't strike me as a light footed driver. LOL) M3s prior to the E9x version were a bit harsh for daily driving use. The M3 has a unique suspension setup and I doubt you'll want to replace the suspension on the 335, and if you did want to, and the M3 is not the better quality car, just wait until you find one that is a good quality car.

The M3 is just the coolest Car and should be kept stock or at least close to it I think personally. If economics was out of the equation I would get the M3 any day of the week. Sure 335s like my own would own me on the highway but that wouldn't matter as everything would be sorted at the track..! My friend has a E93 M3 with all extras and it is a really cool car. Sure he is slower than me in a straight lime but is that thing nice to drive.
Economics is the only reason for my 335 and I will try to get closer to the M3 in terms of handling but probably never get there. |

@E90Company, You can't just take the suspension and the LSD from an M3 and expect it to handle the same. What about weight distribution? Also, we are talking used 335s and M3s. So if OP found an 09 335 that is a similar price as the M3 we aren't talking about the money to tune a 335 to kill an M3 in the straights and the turns. Just the straights, but not everyone lives in Wyoming. |
