Problem! need help
hello,
ill try and make it short i had my electric water pump changed about a week from an independent shop. and yesterday and today my car got a bunch of warning lights such as abs light, flat tire monitor, and the transmission light a ! in a sprocket. Also yesterday the car would lose power by the radio flickering and the transmission wont shift, so i would shut it off and wait a little and they would go away then come back. Then today when i was going home it hasn't done anything so i thought it was just a weird thing my car did yesterday. but my lights came on again so i pulled over and waited a little and when i went to go start it, it wouldn't. so i called my brother to come and jump the car and started right away. i took the battery out and took it to autozone to check it and they said it was good 94% charge, but said something is not charging it so im thinking is it my alternator, or did they install the water pump bad? Thanks for all the help!!!!! |

Could be the water pump electronics are bad.
Could be the water pump electronics are bad.
A lot of the devices such as the water pump sit on a serial bus. If one of the devices on the serial bus is bad it screws up the bus producing errors from all the devices on the bus. There was one guy that went around in circles on this after and a water pump change with a symptoms like this and it turned out the new water pump was bad. loading down the bus and causing a bunch of things to look bad. The loss of power sounds more like a battery problem though . When you work on these cars they stay awake sucking down the battery if you have the door open and the fob nearby. power if the car is an 06 or 07 it probably needs a battery. Try trickle charging the car till you know it has a good charge. Measure the voltage on the battery when the car is sitting and then when running it should be around 14 volts running . And the battery should measure around 12.5 at least static there is a glass eye on top of the battery that indicates its condition. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...D-JnzIySh8h3Eg Last edited by ctuna; 09-07-2012 at 10:25 AM.. |

your best shot is just to call up a shop and ask. if it's just programming, they won't charge much dealerships on the other hand.... |

how did they know that the battery is not charging?
test the battery, test if the alternator is putting out 13-14 volts at idle you have to read the codes

I'm experiencing the same thing as well, the car would have no electrical power to it and battery isn't the issue. A lot of members here are having the same problem with this and the culprit seems to be the fuse box and the b+ cable attached to it (thick red cable) behind the glove box. Search up fuse box and b+ cable and you should be able to find that thread.
I've tested it and by tapping the b+ cable, power would come back on. I'm waiting for my new fuse box and cable to arrive right now and I'm gonna be swapping those out to get this annoying issue fixed. At the beginning, the power only shuts off when the ignition isn't on, but as time goes by, there's a chance while driving it would lose electrical power for a split second (freaks you out) or even just shuts off power and dies on the road. So most likely corrosion builds up in the cable. There's a good description in the main thread where you can get info on how to get behind the glove box to test this out next time it happens. |
