Deals on 2012!

Hello all!

First post! I wanted to know if this is a great time to get a deal on a 2012 328i. I went to BMWconfig last night and right now the 2012 that I want is only 1k cheaper than the 13's I would love to get it under 40k is this a good time to haggle a dealer for a great price on the 2012?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums

If you are planning to negotiate on a 2012, bmwconfig isn't going to help you ahead of time since you are at the will of dealer stock. However, if you find one you like at one of the dealerships in your area, you can punch in the vehicle's config on bmwconfig and work from the invoice price so you know exactly what the numbers are prior to negotiating.

But even then it comes down to the dealer and their negotiations/willfulness to sell you a car/give you a deal/work with you/finance you/accommodate your negotiated price/etc.

It's not like it's mid-2013 and there's still 2012s on the lot. It is barely past mid-year and plenty of consumers would be happy with 2012s (and are unaware of 2013s even being an "option" at this point - technically they aren't an option since they are currently order-only).

So at this point in time, the 2012 vs 2013 clause won't get you any deals. Also for further consideration is that they are both the same body style, so it matters even less.

Some advice.. Go in with the invoice #s printed out, print out the ordering guides for the 2012 model (found on this forum) and write down the invoice numbers, write down the MACO fee, write down the destination fee, etc. Decide what you think is fair and tell them that's what you want the car for.

You've reminded me why I love ordering new body style BMWs. Takes out all the hassle of dealer stock shopping, and you can rely on fairly consistent depreciation (being aware of the model's lifecycle). You can have 1 single number you want to stick with and tell the dealer take it or leave it, I'll shop somewhere else.

Unless you are in a huge rush to buy, perhaps you should also consider this

My local dealer is offering 3k off all 2012 3 series cars they have on hand. Getting my dealer to sell a car below MSRP is difficult, so that is a relatively good deal.

Great insight!
I found the exact car I want color options etc, when I contacted the dealer for a price they quoted me 46k and were giving me a special discount of 2k making it 44k (still a lot) without me asking for a special price they lowered the price that makes me think they would go lower. I have Usaa pricing for the car @40k
I emailed them back asking for usaa pricing. If not I'll keep looking or might just order a2013. If I'm going to spend all this money I need to love this car!

3k off MSRP is nothing too glamorous (as you may already know). Depends on the model/options though, technically. Many on this forum have paid much less, including myself, on a brand new, custom-ordered 2013.

Maybe try other dealers in your state.

I would think the best route would be to try and be direct as possible then with them.. Punch the config into bmwconfig, get the invoice price, add $500 and see what they say.

There is only one dealer in the whole state of New Mexico. That is why they can typically get away with charging full MSRP. Last time I bought a car, I ended up ordering from Arizona. This time, my local dealer gave me a "good enough" deal, to keep me from going out-of-state again.

For my 2013 335i M-Sport, they gave me 2.5% off of MSRP. I also got another 1k off for the Olympic Drive event. Destination & Handling $895. DOC Fee $149. Title & License Fee $68. They are not charging me any other fees (MACO, training, etc). New Mexico's vehicle tax rate is 3%. While I realize some are getting better deals, that is about the best I could hope for in this state.

Wow that's crazy in new Mexico!
There's at least 10 dealers in ct. I got a call from 2 today that say they can order my car I don't know what that means can they order a brand new 2012 or get it from another dealer? I'm confused about that

If they ordered one now that would mean 2013.

And no, not from another dealer, it is literally an "order" for your car. Like how you order French Fries in the drive thru.

They put it in their system, and it is built to your specification.

You would benefit greatly from reading this: http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/07/14/ho...d-to-delivery/

Only downside is that the entire process takes about 8-10 weeks. But works out well if you are trading in or have a vehicle that you're still trying to sell, etc. However, there are plenty of incentives to doing this, like having the exact car you want, ordering a 2013 very early, the thrill of having a custom BMW, better negotiating because it's an order & you're educated vs. having to waste the dealer's time "selling" the car to you, etc.

If I can get the usaa pricing 2012 for a custom order 2013 it would be an awesome deal! Can any of the incentives be combined with usaa pricing?

USAA pricing is not just a MY2012 offer. So you are good to go in that aspect.

I found a 328 with almost everything I wAnt except the interior. Is the best price I've seen from anyone 40k
Imperial blue
Luxury line
Prem pack
Tech pack
Heated front seats
BMW app enhanced blue tooth.
Sirius for a yea(careless)

Most dealers offered 44500 for a 2012. Is this a good deal or should I wait a few to see if the arrival of the 2013 lower the price?
