Royal Purple / oil changes

So I switched over to RP on May 7th...

Less than 3 weeks later, the car told me to add another 1L... which I did. This is less than 500 km driven ....

Went to the track June 17th, after-which, I had to add yet another 1L of RP... (that I could understand, as I pushed the car pretty hard).

This morning (July 4th), car is yet again telling me I need to add another 1L..

WTF ? This was never an issue with OEM or Castrol juice...

Has anyone experienced this ? I am thinking about going back to OEM tomorrow...

PS. no visible leaks.

Been using Royal Purple since November 2011 and never had issues with it.

It performs better if you are going to hit the track and then drain your oil right after, it's garbage for street use.

This is why I hate message boards sometimes. Ignorant comments like this. I have been using royal purple since 2005 in all my cars.

I never have problem with oil burn and go to track alot. It is commen for bmws to use some oil especially when push hard.

Maybe try to switch back to oem oil see if still burns?

But royal purple oil is not garbage, many test and real life race cars and street cars use it. That's just my opinion I do not like stupid comments . Sorry if I offend anyone

So let me ask you, do you know anything about oil and how it works? Or do you just believe the hype? If you do know about the science behind the topic, please explain to me what benefits RP provides?

There are people who also have never changed their oil in their cars and they surprisingly run fine as well, the point is RP isn't doing anything it advertises for you. Sure it has some moly which will help reduce wear in high stress situations, but it's a let down in other categories.

Spend some time and do your own research, you'll quickly find out RP for a daily driver is no different than your typical stuff that costs half as much. You'll quickly find out about people who used RP for extended periods had issues with sludge and you'll find out about some testing that was done somewhere (I think in Oklahoma) that showed RP does none of what it says it does any better than your typical fake synthetics/half synthetics you can find at your local auto parts store.

ANd just to clarify, your car won't blow up if you use a specific oil.

My neighbour has 250k on his ford and he thinks oil changes are a scam, his car still runs fine too. I know people who use 87 octane in their 335's as well.

Moral of the story: RP doesn't do anything special for you, but if you like it then there's nothing wrong with using it.

Oh and forgot to mention, their racing line is very very very very different than their regular stuff.

Any info. or links to a website regarding factual testing on this? I just ask because I just switched over to RP and I've noticed intake temps down about 10-15 degrees.

This is likely a combination of installing my Stett CAI, but I'd be curious to get real data. If its garbage I don't want to be using it.

There is nothing wrong with RP. I use and many friends use, it brings down the engine temps, and protects better ,

Dr G, just like to make stories, I don't know why.

I understand the xpr is different, but I know some race teams that use the street 10w40 in race cars, and have no problem .

I still say +1 for RP.

Well, it was not Royal Purple.... Switched over to OEM and same issue... Light just came on again....

Since I bought extended warranty, I'll most likely go into a dealer.... unless of course you guys have other ideas...

my car is mostly all street driven-except every normal day is a race day for me. Im thinking of switching to RP..what weight do you guys run? Also im in Texas but this next oil change will probably run for a year (through summer and into the winter) in my car as my car is normally only driven on weekends. As far as BMW recommending RP, I would guess it all has to do with money, just like the AMG mercedes have the nice little Mobile1 sticker under the hood because they pay AMG to do so.
