Car and Driver 335i coupe

I am sure most have seen the new Car and Driver multicar track shoot out at Virginia International Raceway. I found it odd that they listed the weight of the 335i coupe at 3366 lbs and specifically mention that it was heavier than the Z4M tested at 3312 lbs. Looks like they may have used the unladen weight of the 328i which lists at 3351 lbs.

Interestingly enough, the 335i was 1.2 seconds quicker around the 4.2 mile track!

For those of us that have not seen it, how about more info on the other cars, or better yet, a scan of the article.

I am now doubting the listed weight BMW gives for the 335i cars.

Why?

Well, they list the 335i sedan with steptronic at 3605 lbs.
That's about 300 pounds heavier than the e46 330i.
But the car only got marginally larger overall, so where did the 300 lbs come from.

Then check out BMW's listed weight for the new 2008 535i with steptronic.
They list that car at 3660 lbs.

That's only 55 pounds heavier than the 335i. NO WAY!!

The e46 to e90 transformation supposedly gained 300 lbs in the car that only got a smidge larger, but the 5 series is only 55 lbs heavier than the 3 series and the 5 series a decent amount larger than the 3 series.

Maybe Car and Driver took the car to a certified scale and had it weighed and the 3366 lbs is what it showed.
That would make more sense, as that would be about 80 pounds more than the e46 330i and be more inline to the small size increase that the e90 platform increased.

Bottom line is, there is no way the 535i is only 55 lbs heavier than the 335i.

Maybe I'll take my 335i coupe to a CA Certified auto scale soon to confirm the actual "wet" weight of the car.

It's pretty close to accurrate. When I had my car corner balanced (e92 manual,) the total weight was about 3704 and I weigh about 187. I'll post the exact weights tonight/tomorrow when I get home and spill the beans about my girlish figure for the sake of posterity...

The answer is obvious, the person who drove the 335 for the test weighed a negative 300 lbs.

.
yes that is true

the 5 isn't much bigger, and a large portion of it's frame is aluminum instead of steel in the 3 series.

the 5 weighs the same as the 3
