G37 better than 335i....REALLY???
I have a bone to pick with MT for advocating that the G37 is the better car.
Here is why I feel their argument is benign a.) The car they tested was bereft of an oil cooler.. get one with it and then lets rerun these tests b.) The Infiniti guzzles 15% more gas than the BMW c.) The Infiniti is more cramped on the inside d.) Its 0.3 seconds slower to the 60 than the 335i and is ultimately slower to the quarter mile. THIS point holds a very valid ground because if price you want to consider price as a factor, look at the S600 and S65AMG. Both 12 pots but the S65 is ONLY 0.3 sec quicker to 60 then the 600... and what is the price difference...about $45K... so the 'measly' 7K difference would not even merit this argument....hell you may end up evening out the premium over gas bills over the few years you own it .... e.) THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT...The BMW (any BMW) holds its value a lot better than any Infiniti...makes perfect financial sence (and I am not even talking about the 4 year 50K maintanence) So the King of Munich has nothing to worry about from the army of Carlos Ghosn...the japanese had better get back to their drawing boards!!!!! |

I hope the G37 really is better, then maybe BMW will start putting in proper oil coolers and add an LSD to the 335. It still amazes me that a car with this much power does not have an LSD as at least an option. And I don't give a damn about the argument that only M cars should have LSDs, as the competition won't stand still worrying about BMW maintaining the status of its M cars.
Good for Infiniti, without them we would still be driving around in 220hp 3-series. |

That guy picus already shouted fire in the crowded movie theater in which you just did. So many people took the flame bait. Hey, maybe, just maybe the G37 is better than the 335 in some or many ways. Somehow I doubt it's better in steering and fuel economy, two things that I love about the 335.
As long as I'm happy, motor trend and picus can say the king is dead. Doesn't change how I feel about my car. And to G37 owners, I'm sure you have a fine car too, add the steering and fuel economy to it, and I may have a look 10 years from now. |

Not only is the G37 cheaper, but has a functional fuel pump.
Seriously guys, competition is good for everyone. Somewhere, someone has a better car than you, and will always have a better car than you.

In the early '70's, MT once crowned the Chevy Vega (of all turds) as their "car of the year".
They've had NO credibility since.

I owned a G35 Coupe 6MT and loved it, but I realized what all the fuss was about when I bought myfirstbmw....I have owned over 25 different cars since age 16 (I am now 42) and nothing comes close to my BMW.....
Even if the G37 was equal to the 335i.....do the math.... The so called $7k that the G37 (they use a CLOTH interior base version that they make about 500 cars total as the price comparison.... so if the G37 makes 280ish RWHP stock, owners will need to use that $7k to purchase and pay someone to install a Procharger to get the same RWHP gains as the current PROcede does for $1,200 dollars..... so now the BMW is only $1,200 more with many more "standard" features to achieve 330ish RWHP (ohhhh... with the FREE update to PROcede 2.0 that is projected to produce 370ish RWHP, how much more would you need to spend on the G37 to achieve those same numbers? just my .02 |

I am glad there is competition. Everyone wins!
I am not sure the G35 used value can be determined yet. It is not clear the market for used turbo cars will be high. If the problems are resolved with cooling, fuel pumps, and poorly tested software updates are resolved they will be high. If not they may not be so impressive. I owned a G35 before my 335i. I know the 335i drives better and is faster. I also know I had no software updates and a better navigation system on the G35. Depends on what you are looking for. Tom |
