Voice commands not working

Am I missing something with the voice commands?

Granted, I don't have much use for them but I can't get the thing to recognize anything I'm saying. Am I doing something wrong?

I hold the button on the steering wheel until the tone, give a command, and the system simply says "I'm sorry." I repeat myself, and it either says "system off" or "that function is currently not enabled" (or something to that effect). It will occasionally say, "the phonebook is empty."

I downloaded the manual online and didn't see any glaring oversights on my part. Can someone help me out?

You can just push the button quickly, don't need to hold it, the tone occurs a couple seconds afterwards. If you're not speaking until you hear the tone, you should be OK, unless there is some problem because you're still pressing the voice button.

I have a similar response on some categories, but not for every voice entry. Most of the time it works.

I find that after you have heard the bleep it sometimes takes a second or so for the symbol to come up in the corner of the screen. If you speak after the symbol comes up and not after the bleep it will recognise the commands every time.

The voice recognition is crap. It never does what I want it to. The only time I use the bluetooth is to recieve calls...to hell with making them.

This doesn't sound good. Why do the Japanese companies always have such better electronics than the Germans? Damn it!

I tried waiting, but I don't even see a symbol come up on the screen. If you don't say anything, it prompts you with, "Please speak." I tried every command and got nothing. Oh well. The hell with it.

I suggest going to dealer and see if it is defective. Although I like many aspects of the Acura Navi better, my personal experience is that the voice recognition of the bmw is superior.

"that function is currently not enabled" may be correct...

Did you program the VC feature with the names you want to call?
As I recall you have to teach the system by giving the numbers a nickname, then when you call out the name it links to their number. Look at your manual, the dealer showed me how to do this---it does work, and quite well!

Your CSM at the dealer will likely assist you with this fo no charge.

After playing with mine for about an hour or 2 I was able to get my wife's cell phone number in there. Didn't have the patience to go on.

I don't even have a bluetooth phone. I was just trying to get the nav commands to work. I'm going to have the dealer look at it when I take it in for the 1200 mile service (which is rapidly approaching!!)

Oh, my bluetooth phone (Palm Treo 680) doesn't work with my 2007 Z4 I picked up last weekend.... but there is also no IPOD available, only a generic input. Feel like I paid for the toys and nobody's home!
