What is this in the back of my trunk?

I am looking to install a sub and amplifier in my car - 2011 323i. I have the base stereo - 4 speakers plus to mids under the seats. I do not have a stock amp in the back of the trunk on the drivers side. But i do see this silver metal box with wires going into it. Would anyone know what this would be?
