Exclamation Vishnu/FFTEC Single Turbo: 60-130mph 6MT World Record

Hi guys,
We have made some small changes to our shop over the last few weeks. First, we installed a 3.46 final drive which shortened up the 6MT gears quite nicely. Now, the top of 4th gear does 135mph (with 7200rpm rev limit) with 275/40-17 ET Drag Radials. Which makes it perfectly suited for 10s 1/4 miles. This means that the car will hit peak HP (7000rpm) just before the traps.

Next, we installed DSS axles since we snapped an original axle at the dragstrip not too long ago.
DSS axle on left/Stock axle on right:

The stock one is a bit lighter since it's hollow. But the DSS axles are definitely a lot stronger. No issues with install. No vibration. Just perfect quality and fitment.

Also also installed a manifold referenced 3.5bar MAP sensor and re-calibrated the Procede's in-dash boot gauge to read 0-30psi (instead of 0-20psi).

While driving in Mexico, I did an warm up 60-130mph pass running 21-22psi. Felt fast. Ran a 7.38s 60-130 on the VBOX which was already a new non-NOS world record. Traction was a little iffy at the top of 3rd gear.:

Then I bumped up boost to 22-23psi. But more significantly, I flattened out the boost curve a little to give it close to full boost in the midrange. This resulted in a lot more midrange torque and MAJOR traction issues in the top of 3rd gear and even a little spin towards the top of 4th gear (hit a little bump). I also removed the boost taper above 7000rpm. And it was a lot FASTER. For safety reasons, I did all runs with DTC on (pressed once):

The datalog shows traction control intervention through 3rd gear. This is despite running 275mm wide MT drag radials set to 20psi. Once it 4th, it hooked up well and pulled insanely hard. Despite the traction issue, the 60-130mph time was 7.00s! And this is with almost no downward grade:

I suspect just getting full traction in 3rd gear would have dropped times to 6.9. And an up-to-3% allowable downward grade would have possibly resulted in a 6.7-6.8s run. Which is pretty ridiculous for any car not running nitrous.

Here's a video of the 7.00s run. You can clearly see the traction control light flicker and revs spike (due to wheelspin) in 3rd gear:

We'll spend the next week working on getting more traction and, if successful, making more power. Amazing to think that a stock N54 engine is capable of offering this kind of real world performance without nitrous or decent testing conditions.

FWIW, the car is running new injectors (replacing the original "317" injectors that were clearly compromised). It is also running an MSD81 DME with the newest BMW software update. The only change to the DME software was a 7200rpm rev limit.

More info:
~94oct+PWM Meth (80/20)
85k miles on 100% stock engine
Spec Stg 2+ clutch w/light flywheel
3.46 final drive
Quaife LSD w/DSS axles
Stock spark plugs
Stock coils
Forge DVs with yellow springs and shims
Procede Rev3 with NLS and external 3.5bar MAP sensor (manifold referenced)

Looks quick. I am sure that 60-130 time will continue to drop. Especially when customers get their kits and start pushing it.

Current E9x M3 no-nos record is 6.16 sec.

It's going to be really hard beating those boosted DCT M3s in this test. I'd say just the manual shift alone is costing me 0.2-0.3s compared to the DCT M3s that do a much better job of keeping in the powerband (short gearing) and shift a whole lot faster.

That said, with the current power the car is making, it most definitely has mid-6s in it. Just need to find a better testing location. It would be cool for an 6MT N54 to hold the overall record. But I suspect we will need to make well over 700whp to make up for the transmission "handicap". Maybe the 6AT single turbo N54s will do a better job at representing

I also don't think a half an inch of rain helped road conditions that much unless it dried up on that side of the bay (with the clouds in the video, it looked damp still).

It was nice to see the tree line racing by ... not much margin for error at 130mph.

The rain had stopped earlier in the morning on this side of the bay. So the road was dry. But the road surface was definitely cold. Will have to re-test on a warmer sunnier day where the tires should give more grip. Or maybe with the Hoosiers drag tires mounted and fully warm. That should do it.

Great results. Very impressive. Now just waiting for Vishnu to allow out of shop install and testing. I'll definitely be one of the first.

The axle on the DSS shafts is a lot bulkier, but did they build up the CV joint on them? That is where they always break. It kinda looks like they did from the pictures, but I can't be certain. What's your take after having them in hand?

I'm wondering when the driveshaft is next. We need an option for something stronger. AR?

It won't be too long until we start shipping kits. We just need to test fitment on all different transmission/drivetrain combos first. The DSS axles have upgraded CV joints do they should be solid from this point out. The factory driveshalf looks plenty beefy as is. So I think we are good there.

Impressive numbers. Hopefully a 335is DCT out there has money to drop on a clutch upgrade and a single to truly represent! I've seen first hand what a FBO pump gas 335is is capable of.

Looking forward to the at xi where traction won't be an issue if everything holds up.it will be the true test of power vs traction, weight and parasitic loss.

I have a feeling the xdrive will need some serious upgrades to be able to launch under a lot of boost, coming from an evo ix mr, launching with a 2-step and a nice set of sticky tires, you can easily brake axles ect...
