Gear Set differences

I am just about to make the plunge on a OS Giken LSD for my E90 335i but not 100% sold on the 3.46 FD. I do belive this will unload the turbos quite a bit and reduce boost (never mind put you out of the powerband a bit too quick).

My question is will the gearset from a E90 328i fit a E90 335i? The FD would be a 3.23 which is a good comprimize in my mind.

I honestly dont think its going to make THAT big of a difference drivability wise. Maybe slightly but nothing that your going to be able to notice really IMPO....

It's not going to reduce boost, that will remain the same. It will just make each gear a little shorter and increase the torque output to the wheels. Think of the differential as the final multiplier in an equation. The higher the number, the higher the torque output. The lower the number, the lower the output. Also consider the higher the ratio in the diff is, the higher your rpms will be on the highway. If you commute a lot, this will bring your mileage down as well.

It will not reduce effective boost but reduce loading on the turbo. This is something great for NA cars but not as ideal for a turbo setup such as on the 335i.

From my calculation, the gear reduction/increase would be definatly noticible. The 6th gear effectivly becomes 5th in relationship to speed.

I see there are many people who have the 3.46 but no one has a true review posted. The only advise is on gas milage. I am not concerned in any shape or form about gas, only useability for both track and street. Obviously this is a great mod for the track for 4th 5th and 6th gear useage, but daily driving is of a concern as well.

Red = 335i Manual Gears with 3.08 FD
Blue = 335i Manual Gears with 3.46 FD

Utilizing an effective red line of 6500 RPM.

As you can see, the 3.23 option would be a more practical streetable option but still effectivly shortening 4th 5th and 6th.

Sounds kool.... Will it hold all the torque on a FBO car tho? What kind of quality/durability is that LSD?

the OS Giken is a clutch type LSD and it is very reliable. I have run it in and other OS Giken components other track setups and have always been happy.

Does anyone know if the 3.23 gearing from a 328i will fit the 335i diff? Im not seeming to get a clear answer on this if it is possible, or why it isnt.
