stett cai or ultimate racing cai?

Hi,

I am thinking about me next upgrade (got cobb ap now), since i live in a hot climate (at least 3-4 months-Arizona) i think it would be beneficial to get a true cold air intake for my care (335i). I am stock between stett cai and ultimate racing, i am also thinking about getting a charge pipe/bov. Are these cai going to fit if i decide to get a charge pipe/bov? also how is the fitment of these 2 cai, do i need any cutting when installing them? suggestions welcome. Also, are they loud? meaning when i get on it, does it make a loud wooosh sound?

Thank you

They're both pretty much the same. I have the Stett CAI and am extremely happy with it, no cutting involved. There are 2 versions of the Stett with the latter improving on fitment. (The earlier one would sometimes interfere with the brake duct IIRC.) If you're buying new, it isn't an issue as the v2 will be sent to you.

I still have the stock CP so I can't comment on any aftermarket fit issues, but I plan on getting the ER pipe and don't see any problems.

The fit and build quality on both are top notch, i would personally go with UR CAI only because its a 1 peice weld, vs stett being a 2 piece attachment. just be sure to swap the filters for either or.

I have the Stett; it's a tight fit but the quality is great. It comes with a larger filter than the UR intake.

I had the UR, in fact might have been the 1st to get it back in the day. Great intake, you can put a larger element on it if you want but not 100% necessary.

It's loud but not excessively noisy. You hear a nice suction on quick tip in and WOT. You will also hear your stock DVs discharge more clearly.

And even more so if you upgrade to the Stett CP with Forge DV's. LOVE that sound!

I would venture to say that the custom Mr5 intake is the best option when considering every factor (IATs, price, increased breathing capacity). I live in Phoenix and my first summer here I drove on a DCI. Car struggled a lot harder than it does now with Mr5 CAI.
When it really comes down to it, any CAI option for you will be beneficial over stock if the boost is high enough to need additional air.

I have the Stett CAI with Stett charge pipe and Forge DVs. Although the guys who installed it commented it wasn't the easiest install they had ever done, it was also their first Stett CAI/charge pipe combo, so it make take some playing with to get everything to aligned.

As for the looks, sound, and performance, I am extremely satisfied and would recommend both the CAI and CAI/CP combo to anyone.

I personally like the Stett because it comes stock in black, while the UR you have to pay $50 to get it sprayed in black. They both look great quality and I love CAI's cuz they keep IAT's down. I ordered mine and should receive it soon so I can't wait to put it on.

As for the sound if you want a woosh like you hear on turbo cars you need a BOV and not forged DV's. the BOV is what gives you that sound.

thanks for all the responses, i am leaning toward the stett cai as i heard alot of good things about, not that UR is bad or anything, but i know that stett will be compatible with the charge pipe.

Does anyone know if the Stett Cai will clear the ER Charge Pipe with a Tial BOV?

I'm sure it will... but just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with that exact setup..

I've had the DCI & the UR intake.

The DCI gets heat soaked quick, and I even have an intercooler. After that it's pretty much useless to try blasting it with WOT (much like I'm guessing the new M3 will be like). The UR intake was ok but it was the biggest pain in the ass to change a filter. I header-wrapped it but I haven't tried using it yet.

- DCI with a vented hood
- header-wrapped UR intake
