If you had a part number you could do a search
Repair resources
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=635672 http://www.bmwgm5.com/Logic7_6941681.htm http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-C...ioQ5fVideo#ht_ http://www.bmwradiorepair.com/?gclid...FccbQgodIEn0Cg I think the part no is buried somewhere in the first link. I think you need to call optrex I would normaly use Digikey or Newark for electonic parts but it doesn't show as a valid part no. at Digikey. Obtain a replacement LCD, type OPTREX 3231867, for your CD73 head unit. These are available on the internet, e.g. pixelfix. The guy who did the DIY says to use pixelfix for parts but there web site appears to be dated. For 150 don't you send the radio in and they do it for you? I tried looking on Optrex's site but that part number is coming up invalid. Pixelfix want's 95 british pounds which is like 140 US. I was hoping I could find this thing somewhere for like 100 bucks. |

If you could get it from the supplier
I would think it would be much less than 50 bucks.
Still the other two options are better than buying a new radio. Maybe you could call optrex if you get it give us a heads up. |

I ordered mine from pixel fix. I just emailed them with the radio model and they sent me the LCD. I think it was around $130?
If you have a soldering iron it really isn't that hard, the DIY is nicely documented. |

When I first had the problem with my display, I considered sending the unit to be repaired. There are several places in Europe offering to do the repair at about £150. Then one of them told me it was quite straightforward and offered to send me the LCD for about £80, maybe £90. There were no instructions, but I saw videos on the internet of other people changing the LCD on older BMW car stereos so I thought I'd give it a go.
I did not want to get a second hand unit because the LCD might not last or, worse, it might have already failed and that's why its for sale! Here is zoomed image showing ID number: I bought my replacement LCD from PixelFix: http://www.diyparadise.net/bmw_cd73_repair.html I emailed a guy called Balazs, in Hungary, at pixelfixltd@yahoo.com. It took 3 days for the replacement LCD to arrive in the UK. It was well packaged in cardboard and a padded envelope. The new LCD appears identical to the original BMW/Alpine display. It has the same information on the manufacturer's label which is attached to it. I have emailed OPTREX to enquire if there are any other suppliers that we can get these displays from. I will post any reply that I receive. |
