Mine crapped out at the 25k mark. Seems common but at least it's a cheap fix.

I am going to dive into it this weekend. I picked up the gaskets today, I am going to knock out the valve cover gasket as well, depending on how the oil filter housing gasket replacement goes.

When I bought the gasket for the oil filter housing, the guy told me that there is another gasket that is usually replaced at the same time. I didnt see that mentioned in any of the DIYs. I'm sure ill figure out where it goes though.

Heres a pic of all the gaskets and part numbers for reference.

It requires the second gasket if you have an oil cooler. Also you should replace the o rings on the lines going into the housing as well, if you have an oil cooler

you dont have to take off those lines do you? i have an oil cooler and no one mentioned anything to me about replacing that gasket. Im not replacing the intake manifold gasket either...if i think it need to be replaced ill replace it in a few weeks when i clean my valves and do spark plugs...any tips????

the part# ending in 335 i dont believe you need to change when you have the housing leak unless thats whats leaking, i could be wrong tho

Yea, I do have the oil cooler on mine. Thanks for pointing that out.

I didnt know about the o-rings needing to be replaced. I was really trying to avoid having to go back to the dealership again. Do you really think that is important to change?

I guess if I need to go back, I can pick up spark plugs and cabin filter and swap those out while I'm at it.

This post popped up at a good time. My gasket began leaking a couple of days ago. I'm going to be making a parts run to the stealership tomorrow. Im hoping I can knock this out in a couple of hours of work.

I bought everything off ECStuning... their prices are lower than the dealership if you're not in a hurry

I would replace the bolts that you remove from the oil filter area, but others have debated that. I replaced them when I upgraded my housing to the one with oil cooler provisions.

So does the oil cooler gasket have to be replaced if its not leaking? Also what about the intake manifold?

Thanks, but I'm in a hurry. My serpentine belt needs to be replaced also. Its about 1/2 the width that it should be. I'm wondering if some oil got on the belt and caused it to be more brittle.

How much you pay to have it done? Shouldn't the o rings come with the new intake manifold gasket? Shouldn't be too bad I mean I installed my own downpipes so it cant be worse than that lol I have a warranty but don't wanna bring it in for something this small bc is have to take downpipes off and take jb4 out...so ill give it a shit first lol

Hey secretsquirlrel
BIG FYI on serpentine belt.
You must do a search on serpentine belt ASAP on this e90 post and N54tech post
You will see my curent issue and many others regarding serpentine belt problem.
The may be a new recall comming very soon regarding subframe assemble and belt failures on early 3 series.

Hmm, interesting. My car has 07 has 70k on it, so I'm hoping its not related to the issue you are having. The belt has never been replaced, so i'm hoping it just a maintenance need.

If you can get to the bottom bolt without removing the lines I would assume you wouldn't need to change the o-rings. I'm not so sure you can do the job without removing the lines first though. My oil cooler is not OEM.

The one for from the oil filter housing to the adapter plate for the oil lines definitely not, but from the oil filter housing to the other side:

You have to lift the intake manifold, but I didn't have to/couldn't remove it completely.
