N54 Avg Oil Temp?
Hey Guys,
Sorry for the novice question, if it has been answered before. I have an 07 335i and was wondering what the avg oil temp for our car is? Mine seems a bit high since the weather got warmer, it is creeping up to about the 230-240 mark on the dash board. Just was wondering if that was normal? |

OP make sure your 07' has an oil cooler, not all of them did.. 245 is about average to answer your question.

+1, with cool weather here in Oregon (mid 40s), and the oil cooler, my oil temp is around 230F. not sure if the oil cooler is in bypass mode at that temp...

2) Check inner wheel well for a vented cover (passenger side) 3) Take off vented cover and see if there is an oil cooler behind it Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think only the sport package gave the 07's an oil cooler. Also, I beleive your oil guage has a different scale than the 08+ models, so the needle might appear to be really high when the 08's+ will have the needle in the center.

Look in the passenger side wheel well. If you have the oil cooler, you will have vents in the fender liner. You can also look under the hood. Examine the oil filter housing. Do you see two oil lines coming out of the oil filter housing going towards the passenger side? If so, then you have oil cooler. If not, then no coil cooler.

I believe you are correct. The only non-sport packages that came with an oil cooler were goodwill retrofits. Luckily the prior owner of my vehicle complained enough, which is why I have one

Like others have said look at the fron passenger wheel weel you should see a silver oil cooler. or just open the hood and there should be a thick rubber hose right in front of the engine.

You can always get a stock one known as a retrofit kit, or you can get an upgraded one. You have a few options. If you are exceeding 250 I would definitely recommend it. Let me know if you need any more help.

well would you recommend any aftermarket ones? I plan on chipping the car in the next week or two (JB4) and upgrading the downpipies, so I think an oil cooler will be needed. |

That's installed wrong by the way. It could fall out since nothing is supporting it from the bottom side. And no that's not it, see NiVeDh's post.

Er is a great oil cooler. It offers a retrofit kit for those without the stock one. See my site for oil cooling options and pricing. Email me if you have any questions.
