I had my local shop install a 4inch BTIC and they told me they had to trim the inside of the bumper and remove the center grill to make it fit.

Anybody else had to do this? I have a stock 2007 e90 front bumper.

You have the trim the inside of the bumper for any of the larger FMIC's. I'm not sure what they mean about removing the center grill though.

They told me they couldn't fit the bumper on without trimming some of the inside of the bumper off and removing the mesh grill to make it fit. Front of the car now looks like a Subaru with their huge ICs showing......

If a big noticeable FMIC is a turn off you're looking at the wrong product. A big FMIC is one of the things that differentiates the car from the millions of 3 series being driven by spoiled teenage girls.

LOL!

Its not so much seeing it that bothers me, but the chance of either a M3 or Mtech bumper not fitting, which is next on my list to buy.

I have an M3 front bumper and will be installing my intercooler soon. My core is 3.5, but i'll let you know how much room i have. From my preliminary mockups, i dont see where the grill insert or bumper would need to be trimmed.

And from other members installing this IC and the pics they posted they fit the IC without taking off the grills or trimming the inside of the bumper, leading me to believe the install wasn't done 100% right.

I'll take off the bumper this weekend to see exactly what was done and how the piping was done.

Any close up pictures of the cuts? Something that would help us DIYers get a good idea on what exact areas and how much is needed to cut away?

Once you look at it, its really simple. Its just the bottom of the grill section, we actually did it underneath the grill section because its recessed a bit. If you pause the video at 8:25 you can see where the cut is.

Its really an easy install.

I don't think these guys are understanding you. You shouldn't have to trim the actual bumper. Just the plastic behind your bumper. You should still be able to use your grill. I had the huge IC on my STI showing proudly. I wouldn't want that on my bimmer though.

Yeah it was the actual bumper. Not the shroud for the IC that needs to be cut.

Here's a pic.

I think they mounted yours in front of the shroud rather than cutting it.

Putting it in front of the shroud would require you to put it in front of the bumper. Which would be extremely difficult.

Well I took the bumper off today and the shroud was cut properly and the IC was flush against the radiator.

Maybe the stock bumper just didn't have room for it? Maybe a M3 or Mtech bumper would clear? Or is my 4incher just too big and I should've gone with a 3.5 incher......

Some pics....
