Any Experience With R Compound or ET Tires

I am anticipating more traction issues in the near future and I am debating what tires to put on my car. I put this in the go fast section because this is simply about getting power to the ground. Have any of you used any R Compound tires or ETs to get better traction? Have you used 19s? Any opinions?

I have only used performance or drag radials in the past, but I don't think that will be enough when I am done.

I see quite a few people running DR's on the streets (555R's, NT-01's, BFG's) no so sure about the R-comps though. Hotrod has done a ton of street testing with the DR's, getting some fantastic 60' and 0-60 times. Your best bet would be to go with 18's (or even 17's). Check out AP'EX, they make some affordable light weight wheels. Are you still running the LSD?

I am just not willing to sacrifice look, so I won't go with a tiny wheel unless it is a track event. I still do have my Quaife, but that won't hold up to this power IMO.

Some dude on here ran a 1.5x 60ft on the stock wheels with a 245/18 mt drag raidal. Also summit racing sells some sticky stuff to spray on your tires at the track that helps a lot.

I just won't change my wheels. Honestly, I love my wheels so I am really just looking for tire experiences.

I have a Quaife and absolutely love the LSD.

No sir. I have a LOT of reviews about how I have upgraded my driveline. It is a manual with DSS axles, Quaife LSD, CM twin disc 8.5.

You could look into Toyo R888 r compound street tires. They come in 19" sizes and are great for road racing. They also heat up quickly so they should be good for street traction @ 600+whp too.

I agree on the Quaife. I love mine. But in a healthy way.

Shiv, would you choose those over the Hoosier R6? Both come in 19 sizing.

The problem your going to run into with these R Comps is the ultra stiff sidewall. Thats great for the road course, but is going to give you some wheel hop trouble. Id stick with drag radials for DD use.

That is good info. Is there a drag radial you would have experience with? I have used 555r before with pretty good success.

I know the question is not for me; but figured I give it a shot.. R6s are slicks, and probably not a good idea for daily driving..

The Toyo R888 or the NT-01s (I prefer NT-01s) are a better choice. But they're loud, have a horrendously stiff sidewall and not the best ride in the world, but compromises need to be made.. I can't comment on the DRs, don't do much drag racing my self or daily on them.

I use the toyo R1R. They have relatively soft sidewall for an R compound, pretty good grip and decent wear. You should look into them. I think they are the same compound as the R888 but more tread (not shaved down).

I've run Hoosier DRs on the street before, but on a 17...so I'm not sure I will be of much help. Doesn't MT make the ET Street II in 19"?

I say go with 18s so you can get thicker tires for more tire flex and raise it up in the rear. Are you thinking about stiffer springs in the rear as well?

I have driven my FBO+meth MT on both 18" 255/35 Toyo R888 and now, currently, on Nitto NT555R 285/35-18.

My opinion is that the NT555R have given me better traction on the street and at the drag strip. I doubt I'd ever go back to the R888 having driven with the 555R.

This opinion is completely based off of straight line acceleration. I haven't really pushed the 555R hard in corners since they have soft sidewalls. R888 did hold nicely in the corner, but overall, my choice would be with the NT555R.

While I can't argue from a performance stand point what you are saying, I don't like the tiny wheel look.

I run Mickey Thompson street ET's on my TA and they are some of the softest tires I can find. I'll spin em a bit still, but I'm also making almost 600wtq. The nice thing is that when they do shake loose they are still predictable and stay to the road, however I also have a drag suspension setup. I chose those over nt05r's as I felt they were a bit more grippy. The only problem is they don't last long. I'll be lucky to get 7k miles out of them and I drive like a hooligan. Honestly, I don't think you'll find anything stickier in a DR than the MT's.
