How does the Ipod interface sort the files?

I listen to podcasts in the car via the USB ipod connection (Navigation & idrive) on my travels and the order they appear in the ipod is newest to latest, however when the appear on screen in my car, they're all over the place? Any idea how the files are sorted and if they can be resorted to be the same as the ipod?

I think there is options - a random option that I bet is checked for you. While on the USB select options and look. If checked - unchecked should provide the same order as on your drive.

So I took a look and it appears there is no Podcast option on the BMW screen. I find my podcasts under Genre or Artists and even then they are filing by some obscure field, some are grouped together and some are individual, not like the ipod at all.

I'll keep playing I guess

Ok, found a solution - sort of. Searched these here posts and, you create a playlist with the relevant podcasts. Title the playlist "00 ......" so it always appears at the top of the lists.

However, if you start playing songs randomly, a podcast may come up every once in a while, no biggee I guess.

I'm having the same questions. I like my podcasts to play in timestamp order, but if I look at them in iDrive they are in alphabetical order and will play in alphabetical order if I start them from iDrive. What has worked so far is to look at them and start playing them in the normal order before plugging the iPod (in the case an old iPhone 3g) into the BMW interface. Then when I select USB it starts playing them in the order they were arranged and playing before I plugged it in.
