Taking the 08 335xi on a long road trip (16 hrs) Advice?
My wife and kids are planing to head down from Oregon down to California. About a 16hr Trip. We will stop after 8 hrs, sleep and then drive another 8 hrs.
My car is a 335XI 2008 with 57,000 on the clock. I'm curious...I've taken the car on a 2 hr trip before, but as far as long time (8 hrs plus trip) would you guys recommend not taking the bemmer or take it? We have a H3 we can take but the 335Xi is better on gas, and more fun to drive because mine is fully loaded. Anyone take thier bemmer this long of a road trip?

Tips least from my point of view would be: top off your washer fluid, and enjoy the drive honestly. I do a lot of driving and there is never a worry in my mind when I leave with the 335xi. Im also Cobb Stage 2 Agressive.

Really? Ok, I'm just rocking the Burger DCI for now. I just feel like this car has so many flippin' features I didnt want anything to break or over heat....Sounds like I'm being paranoid, Im sure LOL

I dont have a 335 but i have a high mileage BMW. I have a 2008 M3 with 61,000 before and now 63,000 on it and I did a 2,000 mile trip in 3 day, 10hrs a day and the car was awesome! No trouble what so ever. So I wouldn't worry about. Be safe and have a great trip!

I travel a ton and never think twice about jumping into the xi for a long trip. I mean, back in the day you'd say check your coolant and air pressure. But now everything tells you if you're low so not really those same worries.
Maybe apply a nice coat of rain-x to the windshield which works best at highway speeds. Find a good seat position which may not be the same seat position that you use for your daily driving. Ha, I digress, there seriously isn't anything that I can think of that you have to do that is out of the norm. Safe traveling. |

Do you have a spare? A flat tire kit w/ jack isalways a good road trip companion.

No worries. If you were entering a 16 hours race, then I would say you make have some issues. I drive 5 hours trips VERY often and never had a problem.

'08 xi here with 60k. Just did a 10hr trip each way to utah and 6hr each way to LA from Sacramento. No issues except for that speed limiter.
You're biggest worry is the mountain pass on I-5 near the border from OR to CA. It gets some nasty weather, some of the worst I've ever driven through....snow, of course. Are you going along the Coast? Seattle to Sacramento via I-5 is only 13hrs at the speed limit. |
