e90 330xi w/ sport pkg wheel question
Hey guys!
Just looking to find out if this staggered setup would be ok on my e90 2006 330xi. Front: 18x8 225/40R18 Rear: 18x9.5 255/35R18 I have the model with the style 162 18" wheels, so the wheel and tire sizes are: Front: 18x8 225/40R18 Rear: 18x8.5 255/35R18 I know the tires are the same size, but should I be worried about an inch wider wheel in the rear? Will that harm anything? Your input is much appreciated!

9.5 could fit ( check with a dealer to be sure) but that will increase your understeer, especially with the xi. I was told that 9.5s are pushing it on the rear, max they would recommend for front is 8.5, 9 might require carving(sawing into my car to fit a tire isn't my first choice). I just ordered a set of 19" 8.5s to square it up instead of staggered oem. That will reduce my understeer and keep the diameters as close to original to keep the speedo correct and keep the awd % within tolerance. Whatever you do just make sure you talk to an actual BMW mechanic and he can give you the result you want while making sure its still good for your car.

i know that they will fit without any modification. I had these wheels on my e90 330i and they were fine. No "carving" or anything like that necessary. I was only questioning whether or not they would be ok with the xdrive system.
im not looking to increase the wheel width in the front. they are staying at 18x8 with 225/40R18 like stock. just looking to increase the width in the rear by an inch to 18x9.5 from 18x8.5, using the 255/35R18, stock tire size. I was told by another member that it is not a problem and will only stretch the tire slightly, as long as the offsets and fitment are okay.

No you obviously don't need to carve anything on the rear wheel simply because it doesn't turn. If you were wanting to keep a closer ratio between front and back it might come into play depending on how big your front tires were getting. Seems like a pretty big stagger though for an xi ( 8 front 9.5 rear). There's a calculator at http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp
That I used to figure out all the different options that I'm sure you're looking at. Good luck. |
