MP3 CD slow to change music?

I am using an MP3 CD to play music on my e90 328i with idrive. I just had my software updated to 25.02. When I play music it takes FOREVER to change tracks (like 10 seconds or more), does anyone else have that problem? I did burn the MP3 CD with iTunes and it makes tons of directories, would it be quicker if I dumped all the music into one folder?

Thanks for any insight!

Yes. You think the CD is slow, try a DVD with a few hundred songs in a directory, sometimes iDrive will just timeout and give up.

The iDrive software is all Java - everything is about 10x slower than compiled C. Good news is there should be room to optimize just about every slow operation (like list generation), if BMW cared to do so.

Yes if you have navigation with DVD disc slot.

It does but you lose Nav function. However, I recall reading that the 7'ers will buffer the relavent map sections from your Nav DVD. This will let you have Nav function and MP3-DVD playback.

I just got my sw upgraded and I have this problem but it's worse.

Some tracks (all mp3) do not play, they will play for 2 seconds and then skip to the next track. I thought that the scan setting was on, but I think this isn't the case as other songs on the cd work.

Most mp3s take forever to play as well.

This may not be worth much, but I've got v25 and I regularly play MP3 CD and DVD discs. The DVD I'm playing now has 697 songs on it. The largest folder has ~300 tracks in it.

No track seeking/skipping problems, no timeouts, never takes longer than 1.5 seconds to read a directory. "Random directory" / "Random all" work fine.

Playing a track in one directory, then asking the system to play one from another directory will sometimes take 10 seconds or so before the next one starts playing. This is a random occurrence, and seems to be one of those iDrive quirks.

All of which is to say that you may want to look at your media as the culprit. Try a lower burn speed.

How does iTunes make directories?
Seems that when i burn mp3s through iTunes, it just dumps everything into one playlist and burns it as one folder.
What am I doing wrong?
Also, the e90's player derfaults everything to alphabetical order, right?
And it seems like hit or miss whether the name of the album will show in "details".
Thanks

So of the problems might be a burn issue. Try burning another MP3 disc on a quality media and on a desktop computer if possible. (Laptops tends to have worser burn quality in general)

Just another data point - I have a non iDrive system and MP3 CDs change tracks with an acceptable delay - about 2 seconds. What's annoying is cycling through tracks quickly - the only practical way to do it is to *reach* over to the right knob and scroll through the list (as opposed to rapidly pressing the next track button on the steering wheel).

Not at all. Java (current stuff) if less than 10% slower than C last I checked.

Agreed, iDrive is the problem standard radio is fine.

I have an ipod adapter (not the new 6Fl option) and have no problem with scrolling through music on my playlists. I should knock on wood, put it works great. I know that won't help you, but it's another option.
