Noob question. Oil cooler

Heard/read threads where some people didnt have an oil cooler on their 07 335i. At first people claimed that they were only on sport package cars, then some said that it was totally random.. At this point, I dont know what the facts are. Also, will BMW add one to the car if the car is out of warranty? Any reason why some cars had one, while others with the same options didnt? Thanks!

Well, many 07's didnt have oil coolers. To get oil cooler you need the sport package. I dont think convertibles have them

There are a bunch of 07 with and without oil coolers.Sport/manual had them then after 03/07 introduced with sport/ auto Supposedly BMW will do a retrofit if you have an 07 with sport package and are the original owner.

i think XI's needed 18" Rims or something.

From what I've found:

Sport package PLUS the 18" wheel/performance tire combo got you the oil cooler.

Only needed if you drive very hard (illegal speeds for a long time on the street) or track.

Very easy to tell.
If the car is in front of you, look at the passenger front wheel well youll see a silver thin with fins sort of like an i tercooler lol thats the oil cooler

If youre looking at pics online look at the engine bay, right in front of the engine toull notic 2 rubber tubes only if the car has the oil cooler.

I think BMW would only install them if you had over heating issues due to oil temps, that was only under warranty.

Just pop your hood and it you have 2 rubber hoses coming out by your oil filter and going down towards the passenger tire, then you have one.

BMW will not add one (unless you pay for it). They did for a few cars in 09-10, but have stopped that practice. Easiest just to look to see if you have one. There is a spec for which cars get them, it was not random. But there are alot of different specs, so just check.
