Ultimate Racing Downpipe Review

Hey Guys,

I just received my UR catted downpipes. I have done some decent research before I purchased the pipes but I just typed in Ultimate Racing into the search and the first hit was "DO NOT BUY UR dps". Turns out after snow (really salt) hits the metal, the metal just rusts like crazy. I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem with their UR pipes or if this is just a regular problem.... Please let me know ASAP. I have been waiting to mod my car for years now!!!

No experience with the URs,
But if you live in Richmond why order catted? You can pick up a set of the VRSFs for like $400 and they appear to be GREAT quality.

You need a stainless steel downpipe if you want to avoid that. Ironically even some "reputable" manufacturers that say they use stainless steel dont use it 100% of the time.

I have UR down pipes. Got a good deal on them. The O2 bung is not SS and it will rust. Had mine ceramic coated to prevent that from happening. Rusting in this area with UR DPs is a well known issue all of their DPs, not just for the n54. If you are buying new, there are better options. Fitment for me was maybe 6/10 at best, so definitely not perfect.

If they are real stain less steel then it should be good.

My EVO runs DP and test pipe from Taiwan for one year, and it runs good no rust.

I am pretty sure VA has pretty strict emission rules...I went catted so I that I dont need to deal with failing emissions

I think NOVA is the only part of VA that has emissions testing. I live in Roanoke and there's no emissions testing. I thought Richmond was the same.

I have the UR catted downpipes and have had zero problems. Going on two years with them sounds good with my corsa exhaust.

I have had them on my car for over 3 years without any issues. They fit perfect and I like that they have the locator bracket on them also.

Does a thermal coating option prevent rusting also ?

I had my UR catless DPs put on a week or so ago. Cant say anything about longevity at this point but fitment was fine and I'm sure they sound and perform like the rest. I live in a part of the country that wont see snow so I'm not as worried about the rusting problem as some.

The URpipes were installed. I argued with the shop for awhile and get a little aggressive. We finally just agreed to split the cost of the 02 sensors 50/50. It was his mistake, but more on the pipes than anything so he agreed to call UR and talk to them directly about a weld that messed with the o2 sensor bung.

Car sounds awesome, engine revs soooo much quicker and throttle feels light. First mod, and I LOVE it

You need a tune, that's when the car will REALLY come alive. Before you ask which tune, there are several threads about which tune is better and no-one ever wants to actually name a tune in fear of starting a war, but honestly i'm tired of people pussy footing around so here it is: the Cobb tune is currently the best available for the N54. Easiest to install, most user friendly, best logging capabilities, least headaches and solid AFRs.
PM jeff@topgearsolutions and he'll hook you up.
