fuel injector recall issues

Back in August 2011 I had my HPFP and 2 injectors replaced under the HPFP recall. This week I had misfires and read the codes that showed I had misfires in two cylinders.

So I took the car to my BMW dealership that did the recall in August and they found that yes, two other injectors are faulty. They've seen the service record from August and are now telling me that the recall for injectors are not in effect anymore??? They wanted to charge me $160 per injector.

I told him he was wrong and that the injectors fall under the HPFP recall.

To sum it all up, he is going to talk to his manager on monday when he comes in. If the HPFP is good, will they not replace the injectors? They should have replaced all of them the first time in my opinion.

The only injectors that fell under the recall were a certain batch. They scan the barcode on each injector to see if they fall within the bad batch and replace only those. Injectors not in that batch do not get replaced, but can fail. I have replaced injectors on my own $ after having mine checked to see if they fall within the recall. Injectors are actually very easy to replace on your own, but the problem is that they need to be coded in the ecu. Other than the dealership, this can only be done with certain BMW programs such as the GT1. $160 isn't too bad for a stealership price. Tischer charges aroun $128 per injector. I've had plenty of experience with these injectors as I'm on my 3rd set, and only had 2 injectors replaced under recall and have done a full set of 6 after.

I am kind of in the same boat. I had 4 injectors replaced during the recall campaign. The car is now out of warranty and it has incurable misfires in cyl1. I already bought a new injector but it is too damn cold even in the garage to do any work.

I am working on figuring out how to code my own injectors with my laptop as well.

Great info GeorgiaTech335coupe, thanks. I had an injector replaced when they did the HPFP for the 2nd time, but was because the pump and injector were leaking.

My injectors just went bad -- one of them, but dealer is replacing all of them as they were 'the old style' injector. Pricey repair unless some discount is given, $1500.

I just got my car back a couple days ago. I was getting misfires on cylinders 4,5,6. Dealer changed all 6 injectors out and so far it's running nice and smooth now

Wow. Injectors are around $128 each on Tischer, about $6 each for each decoupler, and it takes maybe 30 minutes to install all 6 and about 5-10 minutes to code them (90% of the time waiting for the programs to load).

I got a discount (thank goodness!) on the injector job so it was not quite so painful. They blasted my intake clean at the same time. Wow what a difference, engine runs like new.

Question, It appears that I have a bad injector. My 335 has 85,000 miles never had an issue with HPFP. Now I am getting the cold engine 3 cylinder misfire code. Replaced coil pack and plugs, still getting the missfire, always after it has been driven and then restarted.

Here is the question, it always clears up, is it ok to drive the car long distance (2000 miles) with this intermittened misfiring injector?

Recall done and now same problem

So had the injector problem about 2 weeks ago SES light I Brought the car in and they replaced 3 injectors stating they only checked the injectors that were throwing fault codes.

Now it seems like injector problem again I'm thinking the other injectors are bad.
Dealership say they will check but will charge me if it is not injectors that are to be replaced under warranty that falls under recall.

Is there a way to tell which injectors should be under recall or should it be in the same batch if 3 of them that went bad were under the recall.
Thanks
