6FL Dead

My USB port seems to have died.

It started out life OK, then it got very flaky, sometimes seeing the USB drive, and sometimes not. Then it got to be pretty consistent - it wouldn't work first thing in the morning, then after about 15 minutes of driving it would appear. Now it doesn't appear at all.

I thought it might be a connection, so I took the rear panel off the console. The two connections seem OK. I don't know what other connections there may be along the way, and I can't figure out how to remove the head-unit to check behind it.

Any ideas, or should I just turn it over to the dealer?

Thanks

I've tried about 5 different USB drives, plus my Sandisk MP3 player, and a portable hard disk for good measure. Nothing.

All my USB drives were working before in it.

I managed to pull out the head unit, and there doesn't seem to be a cable for the USB. It must be somewhere else. Maybe the MOSTbus blocks?

I checked all connections at the MOSTbus blocks and everything seems fine.

After doing some searches here, it looks like others are having similar issues when using their iPods. Mine it seems has progressed to being apparently permanent.

Sounds like it's a software glitch somewhere.

We are still trying to figure out why the ipod only plays out of the passenger speakers. They replaced the wiring harness and tried a different cord (usb/aux cord that comes w/ the 6FL option) and it doesn't help. They will attempt to fix it again this week. I hope you have better luck.

Andre - I would take it in to the dealer. The more you mess with the wiring and connections, the more likely they will be to say you damaged it in some way.

Sorry to see these problems - hope they all get fixed soon. Tell us what you learn!

I guess I will bring it to the dealer.

It's not completely dead after all. It came back to life today after driving for 30 minutes or so. Was flaky for a few minutes, then solid for the rest of my drive.

It seems to stop working after the car has sat overnight.

Are you positive it's not the iPod itself? Yours is pretty new though, right?

I brought the car to the dealer, and it is consistent enough that they replicated the problem. They have opened a "PUMA" case, and will get back to me.

Does anyone know if PUMA solves things?

It should, sooner or later. This will get the engineers working on it.
