6FL USB Audio

I ordered my 335i with 6FL USB Audio but I didn't get the Nav/I-drive. Does the usb audio integration pretty much suck without the I-drive? Deciding whether to delete this option and save myself some $$. Thanks in advance.

I had the dealer install the iPod option. My car has the idrive system, and I love it Its great how I get to see the names of the songs and the playlist. I would NOT recommend for you to spend the extra money if you don’t have the iDrive installed. Your car can play Mp3 CDs this means you could play 100+ songs in one cd just make sure that you burn the files with mp3 format. All you have to do is change out the cd when you want new songs every other week or so. The sound would be CD quality and you would be saving yourself a few 100 bucks. I hope this helps let me know if you have any other questions.

I-Drive or not, the luxury of controlling the ipod from the steering wheel is worth it.

hey thanks for the replies guys....

ya basically i ordered the 6FL because I think I'd be too lazy to burn a new CD everytime i wanted to add a song....however, most of the people who really liked this option had the I-drive so I am worrying that I can't make the most of it......

also heard that there are lot of problems with it like not being able to scroll through songs or something like that? and with the ipod disconnecting frequently?

Search for some threads on this. There are pictures of the radio display (non-iDrive) connected to an iPod that shows you all the track, artist, etc info on the main display.
I've ordered my E92 without Nav but with the 6FL iPod based on those pictures. :rocks:

It is cool to see the I-Drive screen display something similar to what you see on an IPod, but keep in mind that no one with 6FL w/out I-Drive has complained about a lack of interactivity. There may be a small sample to judge.

I never had any problems with mine and only recall reading very few issues.

Just make sure you receive the cable a fancy pouch upon delivery/pick-up.

Don't delude yourself into thinking that MP3 recorded onto a cd are "cd" quality. MP3 is a very convenient compression algorithm for getting a lot of data into a small storage space, but it doesn't come near CD quality. I think since the advent of the ipod and mp3 players, people have forgotten what good sound quality is. As a matter of fact, even cd quality isn't that great in terms of true fidelity, but it's a heck of a lot better than mp3.

I have a non iDrive car with 6FL. IMO, the integration is seamless. I love it.

Stupid CA

My CA/GM have no idea what 6FL is. He argued with me about the correct ipod adapter. I have the female/female USB cable, but when I described and even sent pics to him about the ipod adapter (usb/3.5mm plug) he kept saying that's for SAV's only. He's an idiot. What's so funny, is that everytime I call them, they make sure to remind me about how to score them "5's" on that fucked up survey.

I have 6FL without iDrive.

It's a little frustrating to search through the iPod without a large screen, since you can only see a few lines at once. However, my understanding is the scrolling is equally slow with iDrive so it's not much of a win.

I agree with everyone else, the ability to control the iPod from the steering wheel is worth the price of entry to me. What I've been doing is using more playlists and treating the BMW/iPod combination like a shuffle, or using the Genre tag to help find the song I want to hear.
