Where to get helmet in So Cal?

I live in OC and need to find a helmet for this weekend. My old helmet expired. Anyone know a place here in OC that sells auto helmets?

I'm not in the OC, but there is a store here in North Hollywood.

No! Do not buy a helmet without at least trying on a helmet from the same manufacturer in your size. A Bell helmet and a Simpson helmet do NOT fit the same, and the correct helmet size is probably not the same as your hat size. And a poorly fitting helmet can be as dangerous as not wearing one at all.

In the other thread with the same topic, I mentioned three places where a person can find helmets from just about any manufacturer, in or near OC. Trust me, however far you have to drive to try one on, it's worth it. An uncomfortable helmet can make for a miserable day at the track.

rsjames - I searched your posts for the places in OC that carry helmets but can't find it. For those that live in OC, care to share other places besides Sube Sports in Huntington Beach? Thanks!

It was under the SoCal regional forum.

Sube will have the most helmets (Bell, Arai, Stand 21, Sparco, OMP), along with a wide selection of other racing gear (hold on to your wallet!); but there's a few that I believe they don't carry - Simpson, Impact and HJC.

Simpson and Impact both have stores in SoCal - Simpson in Torrance and Impact at Irwindale Speedway. Impact, if you're not aware, is the company founded by Bill Simpson after he cut ties to the company that bears his name.

The only other place in the general vicinity that I can think of is The Racer's Shop in Redondo Beach. Of course, there's also Wine Country Motorsports' branch at Buttonwillow, but I don't know how big their selection is.

I was at the CA Speedway drag strip several months ago and they require a helmet for all vehicles faster than 13.99 seconds - so that would definitely be the case for 335s. Whether or not its enforced, I don't know, and I'm not sure what the rules are for other drag strips, like Irwindale and LACR.

Every place I had been to whether it be the dragstrip, Pro Solo or Solo II required a helmet.

Always good to see someone take it to the track. Too much street-racing and freeway racing talk on the forums.

I'll be at Buttonwillow myself on June 1st. Private track day for my friend's bachelor party. He's a racer, so the venue is appropriate.

We should also get you a GPS so you can locate your caps-lock key.

I don't know about you, but my head is worth a bit more than $60.

Approved for what? A Pep Boys D.O.T. helmet isn't even approved for SCCA autocross. I can't imagine any track day organization worth their salt accepting anything less than a Snell-rated helmet. Seriously, if it's not Snell, SFI or FIA certified, don't put it on your head.

Bartman,

What did you end up doing about a helmet? I think I mentioned in the other thread that there is a store at BRP that has helmets and such, but I don't know what their selection is like. Better to arrive prepared.

What helmet did you go with and how about some details on how the car perfomed at Buttonwillow. I have Willow Springs in 2 weeks.
