This applies only to phones that are over a year old! (and haven't been updated) If your phone is under a year old, please ignore this thread. Most likely candidates are phones of relatives/friends who don't sync their phones to iTunes.

I'm interested in buying iPhone 4s, but only on baseband 1.59.00. To check baseband version, you can go into settings->general->about and scroll down (listed under 'modem firmware').

Please note that restoring or updating in iTunes will update the baseband irreversibly, so if you need to erase everything from the phone, simply go into settings->reset->erase all content and settings and leave it alone once it completes the process. If your phone is jailbroken, PM me before you do this as this process will likely force an update and it needs to be done differently.

I'll take any capacity, any quantity, and will pay fairly. The more the better.

I've always had software unlocked iPhones (5-6 personally) and have never had an issue. I'm currently software unlocked on iOS 5 as well; a software unlock doesn't limit upgradeability if you know what you're doing.

Chances of finding non-upgraded 4s are slim, but I do come across them every once in a while.

rumour has it the sprint iphone 4s phones are unlocked on the GSM side
i'm very tempted to buy one and try
and i've seen those sell on craigslist for 400-450

yep, as are some of the AT&T no-contract phones. That's a good deal, worth looking into. Thanks. I've heard verizon will unlock it after 60 days (from purchase) as well.

You can always bring along a SIM and try it before buying.
