auto and manual transfercases the same

i have a 2006 325xi that i bought with 4x4 light on. i got the dreaded but all to common transfercase internal code. so after calling the dealer and seein the servo motor is 600 i decided to look on car-part.com and see how much a used transfercase is. to my surprise i guess the salvage yards havent figured out yet that this piece always goes. i was able to find a tcase complete from a reputable salvage yard local to me with 9k on it for 400. seeing as my e90 has just passed 100k im thinkin about just replacing the whole tcase and keepin my old one as a back up or just swapping the servo and keeping the low mileage one for when mine breaks. so long story short after searching i see that all 3 and 5 all use same tcase but not have found and definitive answers as to whether the manual and auto trans ones are the same.
thanks for the input

There are a couple different transmissions used in the E9x. ZF and GM I think.

Not sure if that matters in regards to the transfer case.

See if you can pull up the part #'s on realoem.com. See if they match.

Ahh yes those are auto trans. Not sure who makes the manual trans in our cars.

Good luck. Hope you get it sorted out.
