My steering wheel shakes a bit between 45 MPH and 60 MPH. I have been told that it is probably the thrust arm bushings. I am wanting to replace the thrust arms with some with heavier duty bushings, like those in the M3, but I can't seem to find much of anything for the 335xi. Apparently, the AWD has different components there than the rest.

Alignment normally does not have to do with vibrations in the steering wheel....out of balance wheels do.
A car out of alignment normally doesn't track straight. If your front wheel/s are bent and not too bad, rebalance them and place them in the back if you have a square setup. That will get rid of the vibrations in your steering wheel (if the rears are not bent). FYI, a bent wheel can balance perfectly fine on the balance machine BUT it does not always get rid of vibrations! Having bends in the wheels can cause small vibrations you may not feel (especially if placed in the back) but they can cause accelerated and premature wear of bushings and other suspension components. |
