always wondered how people pay for lemons

Here's one lender's conditions

Collateral

No commercial vehicles
No vehicles used for commercial/business purposes
No salvage, rebuilt or branded title vehicles
No gray market or lemon law vehicles
No Motorcycles

I'm looking at this stuff now because we're getting ready to buy a new car. Unbelievable, my 2nd car that costs 40k or more. I used to think that was a lot of money, well, still do, but seems like everything is 35+, even plain ordinary cars. Trying to determine how much to borrow, credit union says to apply for 100% if you don't know what car you are getting, and then decide when you get closer. I heard that one before, BMW dealership said why don't you finance 100%, it's was such a low rate (5.49%--back in 12/06!)...

Why wouldnt you just go through BMWFS if you were getting a BMW? 5.49% is really high. BMW usually have deals going on at certain times of the year (your credit score permitting) that go from 0.9% to 2.9%

Although not sure if that rule applies for lemons

I bought my car in Oct. 2006 when E92's were not in stock, there were no "incentives" like there are today. As a matter of fact, BMWFS was higher than 6.5 back then.

Today, BMWFS offers 1.9% on cars they can't sell, and 0.9% on cars they really can't sell. But when you go through the dealer, you lose some of your buying power.

I go in stating no trade, no financing, let's talk bottom line price out the door. If we can't talk about that, we've got nothing to talk about. Once we get that number, it's locked. No marketing or training fees can appear out of nowhere. And if I then decide I do have a trade or I do want to finance, bring it.

But we're not buying a BMW anyway. It's my wife's car, last thing she needs is to have to deal with breakdowns on a new car--she was livid with the 335i, she said it makes no sense you spend all that money, and you can't even drive the car for 6 mos. and the dealership says it's performing as designed? I guess she doesn't get it does she? But hers will be a 3.6L direct injected vehicle, so let's see how her fuel pump does. LOL
