Automatic lights - Day time lights?

so my car is usually is set on the automatic lights mode, however, during the day my lights are still on. I asked the dealership and they told me they are known as "daytime lights" and is normal. Is this true? Do you guys usually run the automatic lights or keep it on the off part which I think still have the "daytime lights on" as well when I tried it.

You can turn this feature off in idrive. I did, I never liked the look of them at all.

If you don't have Idrive you have to use the control stick on left side of steering wheel with dip switch, look it up in your manual, it also is tied to the key fob so if you have two set both up to remove daytime running lights feature.

Yes , what your dealer said is true. I don't like mine on, so I turned mine off. You can turn yours off how the two posters before me mentioned

Am I the only one who thinks the DRL's are kinda sexy? Especially from someone elses rearview mirror? I just know that when I see another e90 with their DRL's on I think.."OH..that actually looks pretty nice."

Daytime running lights have been standard in Canada for nearly 20 years. According to some research, it makes you more visible and thus reduces accidents. Most EU cars also have the tail lights on too.

They are generally the high beams running on low voltage.

I like them, but I'd prefer something that stands out more like lux.

yeah.. those E90 owners who don't have xenon's (bless your souls) I think the DRL are your saviors... I think they look sick, not as sick as adaptive xenon headlights with cona rings, but the next best thing.. don't know how any of you could turn yours off.. if not for the great looks, then for the saftey

Yes this is exactly how E9x DRLs operate. They are halogen "flash to pass" high beams running at reduced power.

I find DRLs quite annoying at dusk, right before regular low beams switch on. Especially when coming over a hill. They can be almost blinding sometimes.

I keep mine off! But my angel eyes are always on....which can be clearly seen during the daytime.

I don't have any halogen lights, my coronas are my DRLS, all four are lit, along with the rear LED tail lights which are on all the time as well.

Love it when I'm stopped behind a black car or a commercial vehicle that has a polished aluminum exterior. The few times I get to see the angel eyes.

Ohhh right. Some newer models uses the angel eyes as DRLs. I think that switch was in '09.

Yeah i'm not totally sold that they're safe. Makes it harder to see turn signals for one. Dunno. YMMV

My halogen headlight '11 uses the center lights as DRL's. The beam pattern is different than the low beams.

I'd prefer just having the angel eyes on. Does anyone know if, when I turn the DRL's off, if the angel eyes remain lit?

I'm really torn on this issue, there are times that I like the daytime running lights and then there are other times I'm tempted to de-active them. When I bought the car the DRLs were preset on so I haven't bothered to go into the control system and change them, but sometimes I really want to.

This is just one of those issues where I can't think of sufficient justification to change something that isn't really bothering anything or anyone (and may even be helping) so why not leave it alone.

lmao, "it looks dumb". really doesnt look that dumb, and its been researched abunch of times by the EU that it is way safer and increases your visibility alot. Newer DRLs are pulsed so they have a little flicker in high speed...

No wonder ya yanks keep those deathrates up
