About to pick up 2008 335xi Coupe CPO. What issues are common? iDrive reliable?

Hey everyone. I've been doing some reading on TSBs and recalls for the car before posting this thread. I'm pretty aware of the fuel pump recall, and injector recall. Though had no idea about the muffler rattle TSB and wastegate rattle TSB. I'm having the Audi dealer service the car for the recalls and TSBs (I noticed them immediately when I started this car...and every other 335 for that matter).

But I have a few concerns. Every E92 335i or Xi I test drove has all of the same issues (specifically the two rattles). Besides those four issues above, what other major things are there to be concerned about? Also, are the dealers just band-aiding these TSBs or are they legitimately fixing them?

Lastly, the CPO warranty does not cover iDrive...how common of a failure is iDrive on a 2008 3-series? I want to know what to expect down the line.

no idrive issues for me. dealers perform all necessary work to fix all issues. muffler rattle is not really an issue to worry about, wastegates on the other hand can result in new turbo..... but dealer will take care of that.

Since its an 08'; The idrive is still disk based, so I would recommend ejecting the disk and inspect it. When I bought my 08' last year the disk was damaged from previous owner which made my idrive freeze at times. I got lucky and the dealer replaced my disks.

I had I-Drive issues on my '08, but I think I'm the exception as opposed to the rule. It would randomly reboot and had temperature issues, heating itself up to astronomical levels and also affecting the modules around it. It almost burned through my nav disc.

As far as I can tell, the problems with I-Drive are few and far between, especially when compared to the other itmes you mentioned (HPFP/Injector/wastegates).

Thanks, guys. I'll make sure to give the iDrive disk a look, as well.

Kolyan2K: Is the exhaust valve related to the muffler rattle issue? What exactly does the valve do as far as performance of the car? Does it just provide variable exhaust opening?

No need to look at disk, burn a new one. There is a thread on this here. I did and it worked great....newer version too.

Exhaust valve which causes rattle just opens and closes one pipe. Its there to warm up the cats quicker, environmental thing. Car also sounds a bit louder with it always open. Its called "Golf tee mod" here in forum.

EDIT: exhaust valve is located in muffler, you can see inside if you look

Ahhh, understood. Makes sense. Yeah, if the TSB doesn't clear up the cold start rattle, I'll just do the Golf Tee mod.
