Question ugly rust on the rotor/disc?

hey guys, there is this one part inside my wheels that's covered in rust; and it's really taking away from the aesthetics of the car

now i'm not too sure what this part of the wheel is called, guessing it's the rotors though? its the part of the disc that doesn't go through the break pads/calipers. (ie the center part of the disc in the attached photo)

i'm wondering if anyone knows what I can do to remove the rust or even paint over it. or would i have to physically replace that part?

thanks for everyone's help!

Was wondering the same thing. I have a feeling when I buy new rims they will be even more noticeable.

That's the hub, just take the wheel off and spray paint the hub like a boss. Tape off the caliper, unless you want that painted too. Don't worry about the rotor, 2 seconds of braking and that'll be gone.

America.

That's the hub that the wheel rests on. All BMW's wheels are hub centric and most spacers used are too as well. Wire brush it clean and use some claiper paint on it but not too thick it binds.

Bigger long term question to me is the use of "active" wheel cleaners now in vogue. Since they chemically attack the iron and deposits and since rotors and brake components are iron for the most part what's that doing long term. Sorry to thread jack with this little tidbit.

I took my 08 E92 to the dealer for service while there I asked them about the rust, they printed on my receipt "solution" = "recommended BBQ paint to cover rust". I didn't do my old car but I did on my 11 and it makes a huge difference and it is not hard to do. Nothing worse than seeing rust through a nice wheel!
