mountain bike fork mount for OEM racks
looking for a fork mount for my mountain bike . the oem bike holder that's on my rack isn't cutting it. the bike isn't that secured. i know bmw has fork mount but it's made for a racing cycle. will this also hold a mountain bike? any suggestions?

I disagree. I had a yamika on my tl. It was good but didn't like the way it mounted to car. The bike holders were good though.
I got the BMW rack and race bike holders. The rack doesn't touch the roof, a plus. There is an old style race bike rack. It looks like the one in your link is the old style ( two parts) the new style is 1 piece. If your front wheel has quick release then it should fit race bike version holders. Just make sure you get newer version |

I have the ones where you dont have to take the wheels off, has a arm that holds the bikes frame. I had a set of the fork mounts and I ended up trading whem with someone for the these. It is much faster and easier to put them on and take them off.
They don't feel the most secure but slowly i have gained confidence with them, and have taken several 200+ mile trips with the bikes on my roof on the highway with no problems.

I used to have the oem arm/frame mounted rack as mentioned above. I had a bike up top and make a sharp/quick turn and applied the brakes to avoid another car, and I bent the arm. Luckily I had another one on top without a bike on it.
Fork mount is the way to go for stability and confidence. |

i would go w/ the BMW base rack, and either a thule or yakima fork mount. if your bike is too burly for a fork mount (20mm or 15mm thru axle), there is a yakima system where you dont have to remove your wheels that can mount to the base rack as well.

Had this set up for a while and you can't go wrong with Thule racks.Must have a X adaptor kit in order to work with Thule racks.

if you are only using the racks for road bikes, this shouldn't be an issue, but i use mine for 30 lb+ mountain bikes, so wanted a bit more security.
