got hit by a lexus
Yesterday a guy in a Lexus hit my rear bumper pretty hard, i sure felt it. He sped off so of course i followed him and sat on my horn until he stopped. finally he did, it turned out to be your typical Lexus driver a old man. He said he didn't even feel it which is bull, because his whole front bumper was gone. Anyway funny thing is it didn't even leave a dent on my car just a big black scratch, which i am making his insurance pay for. Defiantly says something for the strength of my bmw, and the shitiness that is Lexus.

Not Really
First, have seen how weak the front of a BMW 3 is when it hits something, ummmmmm, it aint pretty, or cheap.
And they will only repair a bumper thats blemished, so get ready for a old repainted bumper. |

That's why bimmers cost more. The plastic and metal are thicker than Japanese tin foil.

I have owned both Lexus and BMW. Lexus build qulity as good as and probably better than BMW and the statement that the BMW metal and plastic are thicker is just silly. CA

Their fit and finish is nice, but the thickness of the metals is definitely not as good as BMW from what I've seen. My mom has a 2010 ES350, so maybe depending on the model they vary. One thing Lexus definitely excels in, however, is customer service. Every Lexus dealership i've been to treats customers like royalty.

This thread exemplifiesthe fanboi'ism and ignorance about our cars - and modern cars in general.
Modern cars, in simple terms, are built to sacrifice themselves to protect the occupants. Some parts of a car are designed to crumple, fold or fall off. The front of a car will often be designed to crumple more than the rear, so the car in the rear will most likely almost always look much worse than the one in front. In the early 80's I had an old Plymouth Satellite as a staff car. I was hit at about 20mph and there was virtually no damage to my car. I had a sore neck and the other guy (driving some little Ford) ended up in the hospital. About seven years ago , my Yukon was rear ended by an Accord at a stop light. My Yukonhad a scratch on the rubber molding and the plastic trailer hitch cover broke off. The Accord was nearly totaled but everyone walked away unscathed. I hit a deer at 50mph in my Audi A6 in 2002 and barely felt it, but the car sustained about $8k in damage. Now-a-days, the more damage a car sustains just indicates that it is a safe car. |

if your bumper didn't come off it simply means that the lexus bumper absorbed the energy from the trajectory/angle of the accident. in all fairness it shows they are designed better. |

Glad you caught the guy, but the "shitiness that is Lexus" is an ignorant statement. Being an owner of both a 335i, IS and GS, I can assure you that Lexus build quality FAR exceeds BMW. (I'm not referencing driving experience, handling or performance.)

Lexus quality is crap.
My mother got her E65 745i rear ended by a Lexus RX350 and the Lexus went under my mother's E65. The E65 had spider cracks along the rear bumper....so unnoticeable we never had it resprayed. The Lexus's front bumper was torn off and the rear windshield shattered from the force of the car coming back down after it got wedged under the E65. Accident was about 45mph entering a highway off ramp. Granted the E65 is a freaking boat, it's still a sedan vs a SUV. Lexus insurance claimed the SUV as totaled. We just traded in the E65 for 18k with 97k on the odo. |

I'm as big of BMW fanboy as anyone, but some of you sound so goddamn ignant(ignorant) when comparing your 'godly' BMWs with other makes that it's disgusting. Being a previous Lexus owner, the quality is definately high up on the list.
Anyways all you fanboys that are talking shit, if you don't have pictures to back up all your big mouths just shut the fuck up and don't waste everyone's time with words that have no merit.

Epic FAIL
The Lexus ES has been using the Toyota Camry platform through 5 generations now. Comparing a 5er to a 3er, fail.
