Noise after the car's parked/turned off

Hello All:

I have a 2011 328xi, and today after I got back from a drive, I noticed some noise near the passenger side rear wheel, see YouTube link below for detail.

I'm referring to the noise that almost sounds like a pump/compressor.

Keep in mind the car is parked, with the engine turned off. I did not turn the A/C on during my drive.

The "pump/compressor" noise went away after a minute or so.

Is this normal? If so, exactly what's making that noise?!

it does it when u speed, when ever i drive slow and park it, nothing. if i start speeding even if ur not racing just speeding its going to do that, its normal..nothings wrong with your car

... same experience here and on the X3 also ... sounds like a possum hissing at you from underneath the automobile ...

This is my WAG, but I think it's just the electrical systems powering up.

Its the fuel pumps/pressure...

our cars make all sorts of noises before and after turning on/off. mostly related to the fuel pumps

Normal. It is a diagnostic routine, pump is testing the air-tightness of the fuel tank and cap.

A stupid and unnecessary over-complication, but its normal.
