Vibration accelerating over 80mph
I have just driven my 2007 320 d for the first time on the motorway.
if I am in 6th gear doing around 80 then accelerate the car starts to vibrate, then when I ease of the pedal the vibration goes.At first I thought it was coming from the wheels but I now thin it could be the engine missing. Any ideas please? |

Could be wheels out of balance (most likely), could be driveshaft vibration, could be loose/worn wheel bearings. Not likely an engine misfire. Start with getting your wheels balanced and go from there.

I had the issue with my 335i. Turns out two of my wheels were bent on the inside of the wheel. It wasn't noticable until the wheels came off the car.

Get your wheels road-force balanced. If that does not help...might check your drive train. Mine does that at 55mph. It does not vibrate the steering wheel like a unbalanced wheel would. My wheels balanced Ok, I am pretty certain that it is my drive shaft.

The problem is 99% definately the Injectors if you feel the vibration through the peddles and not the steering wheel. I had the same with a 320d vibration came in under acceleration from 90Km plus and poor pulling power lowdown. I took it into the dealer and low and behold two broken injectors. from your description This is your problem. Kev

Thanks for all the replys.
Think I'll start with the wheels, I don't get any vibration through the steering wheel either. I did swap from run flats to normal tyres when i first got the car because of the poor ride, but didn't get to 80 mph plus before the swap so not sure if it happened then. |

Ahhhh, now theres a question to be honest, I would say the potential is there but diesels produce far more compression than petrol engines thus giving the injectors a far harder time, plus diesel explodes as it comes out of the injector wheras petrol is compressed then detonated by a spark. diesel injectors are far more likely to fail in service so I think the N52's injector problems will be minimal if any at all. well atleast that's my opinion.

Hi, so did you get the wheels balanced today and did it make a diference? I know you don't want it to be the injectors as it is going to cost a packet, keep us all up to date on progress and good luck. Kev.
