Agreed, though there is a wait list. Do you have to drive on the hwy? Can you drive city speeds for a little while?

^ interested in both answers from the 2 posts above. Looking good! Hope you can get them replaced soon. Looks like stock will be the way for you since you're time-constrained and there's a wait list for RB turbos.

modded since 72000 FBO at 80K and as far as i know they are the original turbos, Im the second owner and it was a female who drove nearly 300 miles a day with maintenance plan, and no turbos on record...Im pretty sure just going with stock, may keep my cores to send off to be built, but I think I will get a 535 next year so the built turbos may end up on it

I went through the same situation. I kept emailing and pm'ing Rob and basically got the same standard cut/ paste reply twice. "it should take around 8 weeks and here are the prices" but the sad part was i had no way to pay or no way to get on the wait list and basically all my other emails went un-answered. Got tired of that.
I ended up buying stock oem units as my car is my daily and i need her running. Basic costs: -OEM units ($1300 Tisher) -Supplys. gaskets, bolts etc ($200 Tisher) -Install. ($1400 local shop) Total roughly $3000 Now it's going to cost me more but I ended up getting ASR units. -ASR Turbo's $5k+ -Install again $1400 Total $6500 So around $9k for me but thats because i wanted upgraded turbo's. I'm probably going to be selling my oem units once my new ones come in and they have less than 1000miles on them. These are the new units with the updated actuators etc from Tisher. They are approx 3 weeks old. If you do go OEM, a word of advice. If you go to an after market shop, make sure they know that the wastegates need to be calibrated BEFORE they get installed. I believe you need to plug into a vacuum pump, apply certain amount of pressure etc to verify the wastegates don't rattle. If you go to a dealer, they 'should' know this. BTW, i'm in Canada and up here the dealer wanted $6000 to do the job. I'm close to the USA border so figured i'd ask Seattle BMW and they wanted $5000 to do the complete job. Dealers estimate 16hours to re & re the turbo's. |

From what I hear the RB's are $1,800 with core exchange vs $5,000 for the ASR's.....that may be the reason for the long wait....

the actuator feels like it is tied on with a piece of fishing line, wastegate rattle is one thing, but it sounds like there is a bag of aluminum cans stuck under my car, funny thing is it still pulls decent, its been on its way out for 3 months, that is when i noticed it getting a little slower...bmw kept saying it was normal noise for my mods...you would think they would want to sell me turbos...luckily I know the foreman and open his own shop aug 1st, we looked at it today thinking we could tighten them but its curtains, plus i am smoking like the graffix bong i had in high school

If mine go i will probably head down to Helix. $3200 installed for a set of their turbos last I checked. Upgraded turbos for the price of new oem's installed. Can't beat that!
