Need Help -Looking for a reputable shop near 18901 to do engine work - valves, timing

i'm looking for a shop that's done work on the N54 before and knows what they're doing - somewhere in the northern NJ or southeastern PA area (50 mi or so from 18901).

long story short, crank bolt came loose and engine spun on cams. so it could have valve damage and will def need the timing set.

car's at stealership now and they're being a-holes; don't want to work on the motor, and i'm not confident they even can.

pm me if you're a shop that's seen the inside of this engine or if you know someone that has.

thx

This should not have affected the timing at all. The N54 has a timing chain. The crank bolt simply keeps the harmonic balancer in place which drives the accessories. Your timing is fine. Just put everything back together and you'll be fine.

timing chain is tensioned on the hub in between the pulley and crank. pulley slid out, chain lost tension, cams stopped and engine continued to turn. timing is off.

You are way past the abilities of a place like AKM with that. Take it somewhere like MaxPSI, where they are in the business of doing big things to BMWs. This is somewhat alarming to think about...I wonder if this was just an isolated incident, or perhaps an early case of something that will become more prevalent. How many miles are on your car out of curiosity?

Man, if this motor turns out to have issues keeping things attached to the crank, I would own both BMWs that are notorious for failing to keep things attached to the crank :P

No personal experience but I found them when shopping for meth. If they can build race engines they should be able to help you.

isolated incident, i assumed the impact gun i used to remove the bolt would be able to re-torque to the same amount... i'll look up MaxPSI, thanks.

I just sent a note to VAC, looks like they have a great shop and should have no problem dealing with my issue. anyone here dealt with them?

I got my aluminum radiator from VAC. Their customer service was top notch and they certainly seem to have the know how to repair your car (as they have a 335 there with a motor they built). Not sure about the turn around time though... I'll say the first radiator I got was a prototype and did not fit. They told me they would have another to me by the following thursday; and they did!! Seeing the shop and project cars alone are definitely worth the trip if you're an enthusiast.
