Dealer want to charge extra $500

I called BMWNA and they said my car was accepted for production Feb 21st (ED). So would my car be price protected from the March price increase? Dealer says no and want's too add about $500 for the March price increase. Thanks.

If you have a signed sales order dated before March 1 you're fine and your dealer is a lying thief. If you don't have a signed and dated sales order then you just learned a $500 lesson and you probably will next time.

I concur.
The only item not protected is the $80.00 increase in the Destination.

They tried to do this to me with Aug price increase last year..... I told them to take a hike. I have signed all the papers only 2 days before the price increase.... So, if you have your papers signed you should be fine! There is nothing they can do about it besides whinning.

Why on earth would you ever entertain a thought like that? Don't you hold car dealers in high reverance?

I never signed anything, just gave them a 1k deposit. That was enough for them to keep me from getting hit with the price increase.

I did sign someting and put down a deposit all before Feb 28th. Sounds like I am going to have to have a little talk with my dealer.

There could also be nothing the dealer could do about it if BMWNA is telling your dealer that the price is increased, to bad so sad for them. Just go in to the dealership and talk to them to see what can be done.

if you have a signed sales order you are all set, theres nothing the dealer can do legally.

Ok, youre right. I may have not finished what I meant to say.

The price did go up, but it didnt change my pre-negotiated lease payment. That I only put a deposit down on and still didnt sign anything. It was only verbal and in emails coresponding with my SA/CA(I can never get it right).

BMWNA is price protecting all "Customer Sold" (ie Priority 1) cars that were ordered and have a production number prior to the March price increase. The only thing they were not protecting was the increase in the Destination Charge.

Production dates and BMW NA dictate the price increase. The dealer has you at MSRP then you are going to pay MSRP. If NA changes the cost of their products MSRP then you will pay the MSRP as agreed.

Also, the deposit that you left was for your ED in MAY. Which means that your car isn't being built until MAY. You can not lock in Feb production costs 3 months before you purchase a car. You probably agreed to pay a certain amount over invoice. And you will pay that same amount over invoice adjusted for the new costs.

No one is at fault here. The costs of business go up everyday and if you change your mind and decide to do a ED in Oct later this year you will most likely pay even more.

How did your payment not change? The MSRP and invoice have both changed.

I thought there was minor changes to March production. So if you don't pay for the increase in the price ($500) can you still get a March production car?

I hold my dealership in high regard, as I do the CA's we have come to know on this forum. However, there is still a lot of room at many dealerships for the stereotypical 'car salesman'. If it walks like a duck....

Remind your CA that you are price protected except for the $80 increase in destination charge. If he even hesitates to agree, as the speak to the sales manager. When you speak to him, as him if he would like to educate his staff or would he prefer you make a complaint with BMWNA and your local BBB.

My dealer said because of the 1k deposit, that locked in my lease payment in the case that there were any price increases. They fenagled the numbers somehow so things didnt change. I wasnt about to argue.

I put down a deposit and signed a purchase order all before Feb 28th. Plus BMWNA says my order is in their system as of Feb 21st. so I assume the last paragraph of this page http://jon.bimmerfest.com/bulletins/MY07MY08pricing.pdf would apply. Amazing how dealers constantly try to rip people off.

On my sales contract (pre-increase), it specifies that the dealer can not charge more than the negotiated price. This also includes the $80 increase in the destination fee. Anyone who does business without a contract is subject to the winds of change that either party can effect.

Sorry Insider, Hyper has got me answering his questions for his transaction.

You should not pay any price adjustment if you contracted for your car as a Feb production build.
