FACTS you didn't know about the '07 335xi

The 335xi is arriving on our shores as we type. But what do we know about it? Indeed, very little as there is a paucity of information about it on any BMW website. BMW has been more or less mum about it since a terse press release in its USA website last November "a 3 for 4 seasons" that it has long since taken down.

You can't even web-build one yet for instance. You would expect much more fanfare about on of the best and affordable AWD performance sedans ever made. One wonders if BMW intends the model only for elite drivers who are in-the-know. So I thought I'd start a thread to allow us to gather lesser known facts about the 335xi. Just the facts please - i.e., no speculation or hyperbole.

For instance did you know that the 335xi is such a badass ride that even Chuck Norris is afraid of it? Uh huh, it's a fact. Also (and this fits in with Easter) when Jesus ascended into heaven, God built him a 335xi as a reward!

Garage List
I've been curious too where the 335xi is still not on the website, even though people are taking delivery of them now. Maybe it's just been lost in the recent avalanche of "new" releases from BMW, and after all it is just a 335 with X Drive...

Still, I'd be interested in seeing some and reading posts from new owners of said model...

I have also heard that the 335xi is the only vehicle that is both fast enough, and poseses enough required traction to catch the abominable snowman as he scampers up to his hiding place, deep in the Himalayas.

I think BMW is simply waiting to flog it when they come out with the '08 335xi coupe, because they can do them both. Meanwhile, the '07 will be a bit of a collectors item because of its mid MY introduction and probably won't be changed much going into '08. It comes down to wanting your car to be a double naught seven killer or an eightball.

I have to admit to a bit of embelishment above. Chuck Norris is really only afraid of the 335xi in the winter in Saskatchewan and then only when he is wearing his summer traction cowboy boots.

I don't want to rain on anybody's parade here... but it feels and drives pretty much exactly the same as the regular 335... perhaps they are holding back on the marketing right now to keep the focus on the convertible. it would make sense then to play up the xi version in sept. when the 335xi coupe comes out.

When I ordered a month ago I was thinking about the 328xi (or even waiting for the 335xi) but I decided to stick with the regular 335i sedan and invest in winter tires when it gets cold next fall.

The roads are usually plowed in Toronto in the winter and I rarely drive out of the city... so I decided to enjoy the better acceleration and improved gas mileage that comes without the extra weight (so advised by my helpful CA).

This all makes perfect sense to me until I am stuck in a snowbank somewhere next February. All you xi drivers remember to stop and lend a helping hand to us RWD types if we appear in need.

The 335xi will def take curves faster than the 335i, it's possible it may even accelerate just as fast or even faster, with better application of power. It doesn't take much to break traction on the RWD 335.

I have to say, while you can kick the back out easily if you give it too much throttle, if you're driving the car correctly at the limits I don't think the difference will be noticeable. That said, I'm most likely getting an XI for myself so yeah...

Yes indeed, the auto-suck feature is gonna come in handy on those long drives.

(nts: call CA tomorrow to make sure he ordered the Heidi 2000 for me and not the Hans... )

on a serious note... all xi's (minus X models) have a raised suspension to give higher ground clearance... 335xi will have the same ride height as 328xi...

They don't get sport suspension but they are stiffer than non-sport RWD suspension.

I've seen the occasional ad in the National Post and the Globe and Mail for the 335xi. More hype will likely ensue when the vehicles have been around for a couple of months and available for test drives by potential customers. Also, not on the website, because it can't be purchased off the lot yet - I know, this doesn't make sense, but it's what BMW does.

I'm waiting on my wife's 335xi to arrive by late April, but I think it's more likely to arrive in mid May. Our vehicle is still stuck at the port in Bremerhaven. WW was closed for business on Good Friday, Eastern Sunday and today. The waiting is terrible. This should be one SICK car.

Interesting. Looks like the situation is very different in Canada. Was at downtown Toronto BMW on the weekend. Not a single one to be found for test drive. Dealer was not able to even show me a vehicle. They have not arrived here 'en masse'.

Driven properly, the RWD 335i should be able to outhandle the xi due to weight.

At the limits, RWD is generally better than AWD. AWD is generally easier for a less experienced driver to drive fast.

I hear the xi sedan also spouts a 5th and 6th wheel that run catepillar tracks to the rear tires for powder runs......so i hear

Similarly the xi coupe can fly to altitudes of 38k ft.
