Goodyear LS2 RFT Class Action Lawsuit
We have enough members on this board as well as bimmerfest to compile a long list of complaints by vehicle owners that have experienced failures with the Goodyear LS2 Run Flat All Season Tire. Please note that I am not an attorney but do believe there is a problem with this tire that impacts its safety and durability. Anyone who has paid for replacement should be compensated and these tires should be replaced.
In the case of my 2011 550i with M Sport and xDrive, I have experienced 3 tire failures within 10,000 miles. One of the failures required the vehicle to be towed and in each incident, I had to purchase and install new tires at a cost of over $1200. The vehicle is equipped with 245/40R19 All Season RFT. The information detailed on the following post http://www.forums.bimmerfest.com/sho....php?p=6137398 indicates Goodyear and BMW are aware of issues with this tire but so far have not addressed these problems on a national level. If you are interested in participating, please pm the following information. Name Phone (optional) Vehicle model Purchase date Tire model Tire size Miles driven when the failure occurred If we have enough members who have experienced failures on the same Goodyear tire, I believe we have basis for a class action lawsuit. Complaints should also be filed with the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI), an office within the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) using the following link: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ Last edited by F10550xi; 06-23-2011 at 01:33 PM.. Is the failure due to a manufacturing defect with the tire, or was it due to an impact, like hitting a curb or a severe pothole? If it's the latter, then I think it unlikely that any attorney would take the case on a contingency basis, so you'll be looking at some serious money to take this to court (and lose).
And your link is broken.

Wow,
I've not visited this forum for some time. I was one of the very first owners in the UK with the F10 530d.. I had BIG issues with the RFT and eventually I took them off and put on non run flats. When the tyre dealer took the tries off, they showed me that 3 of them had bubbles on the wall of the tire. They said it was due to the tire being so damn hard and it hitting a kerb etc. I dis-agreed at the time as I hadn't hit any kerbs.. Anyway.. I still have one of these tires in my warehouse showing the wall bubble you mention.. |

Brothers and sisters, this is very interesting because I've also experienced issues with the Goodyear LS2's on my 2011 550i Sport w/X-Drive. At 600 miles my front driver's side tire had a huge bubble on the side and I went to the dealership to have the tire replaced. I'm told by my service adviser that the 19" Goodyear LS2 RFT's are on National Back Order and I'll have to wait a few weeks for a replacement.
My 2nd visit was to a local Goodyear shop! They checked my car and told me that I would have to pay $463.00 for a LS2 RFT and it would take 3 days to get the tire. While waiting at Goodyear I called a local tire shop; Radial Tire, that's used by a few racers and car clubs in the DC Metro Area. After checking my tire and making one phone call, the Goodyear representative informed us that they would replace my tire for free per their Limited Warranty due to the mileage and tread depth. Radial Tire Company was able to get my tire in 3 days, and all I had to pay was labor cost; $25.00!!! What I've learned from this experience is that the dealership and most retailers will misinform customers in order to sell tires. The next time you encounter an issue with these LS2's, tell your Service Adviser to call Goodyear directly and ask about Goodwill concerning the Limited Tire Warranty for BMW RFT's. I hope this helps, Will aka The Swami |

And also DIDN'T provide a spare with cars that DIDN'T have runflats. In my case, neither my 2002 M5 nor my 2008 M3 had RFTs or a spare.

They sold you a car with regular tires and no spare? Is that the case with all M5s and M3s? Seems weird...

It's sad that Continental or Michelin doesn't have an All-Season performance tire with an XL Load Index!! |

Class action lawsuits only get the lawyers rich---on both sides. Meanwhile the plaintiffs that were harmed end up with a $5.00 coupon they can't seem to use.
If you think you have a case go get 'em. Don't try an avenue that won't get you truly made whole. Quote:

As only BMW and Goodyear have real data, it hard to truly know.
However, based on many posts, it seems the problem is far and away with the 245/40-19 GY LS2, not the 18 inch. |

A strange thing I have noticed is that on TireRack they wont let me add a followup review for the tires. I have the staggered 19 inch Summer only Good Year Excellence. Which are not the ones people are having the problems with however, I did find this to be rather odd. I have half a dozen reviews on Tire Rack and I can add a follow-up review to any of those tires listed.
Under the GY EXCELLENCE ROF, the website says: Quote:

Also note that I DID file a complaint (over tire failure) with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration last November.
They - and BMW - did nothing. |

UPDATE: I spoke with several attorneys who handle class action claims. They were unwilling to take this case because of the lack of documented complaints regarding the Goodyear LS2 run flat tires. As of now, I am not pursuing a class action claim against the Goodyear or BMW. I have read a number of threads with complaints about this tire and am in agreement that they are defective. However, only 3 forum members emailed me with their contact information and complaint.

Appreciate your efforts and I would agree that they are either defective or not designed for the intended use.
In my case, when replacement tires were not available for a bubbled LS2, Goodyear replaced my four LS2's at my request with Michelin Pilot Super Sports -mounted and balanced at no cost to me. I'm willing to accept that and move on. |

I'm curious, if you're purpose is to go to a non run-flat tire why you didn't ask Goodyear to put on a good quality all season non run-flat tire like the Pilot Sport A/S Plus or the Conti DWS? I bring this up cause I am in a similar situation - bubbled LS2s which BMW replaced w/ 4 Potenza RE050A RFT at no cost. I stayed w/ RFT (BMW obviously is not going to approve a non run-flat tire for the car) but I'm now in a summer tire which means I've got to make a change after October. If Bridgestone doesn't come out w/ a Potenza RE960AS (all season RFT) in the 245/40R19 size, then my only viable option is to go to Goodyear like you did but get them to put on the Pilot Sport A/S Plus or the Conti DWS. |

Hello:
New to the forum but this thread came up on a google search for BMW 535 lawsuit. In short my 2011 535i has gone through 8 tires in the 8 months that I've owned it. Also numerous drivetrain malfunction alarms at least one full month's time at the dealer. So I'm in the following position. I'm exhausted from speaking with customer relations and getting nowhere. At this point if they won't take the car back I'm just going to initiate a lawsuit against them and my dealer alleging misrepresentation, breach of contract, breach of warranty of fitness for a particular purpose, and the NJ consumer fraud act (triple damages). I'm an attorney. If anyone is interested in joining or has had a similar experience, please send me a private message. Thanks Last edited by Lawster888; 08-24-2011 at 10:15 AM..
