Ok, officially something I hate about my BMW
So Im driving home tonight and it feels like my clutch pedal is getting stuck somewhere when depressed. When I let off of it hard, I can feel the rebound in my brake pedal.
All the way home Im playing with my pedal to keep feeling this and diagnose it(like tongueing the burnt skin on the roof of your mouth). Its killing me because I cant figure it out and I only have 140 miles on the car. Finally I get in my drive way and shut off the car. I look down in the footwell and depress the clutch and what do I find? Its getting stuck under the floormat. WTF, why cant BMW put something on the floor to keep the mat in place? My 10yr old M3 has it, my now gone A4 has it. How cheap can you really be? Anyway, to everyone, be careful of your floormat shiftingin place.

actually the mats come with the screw in velcro holders (the carpet ones do... the rubber ones are diff). most likely detail was too lazy to screw them in. ask your dealer if you can swing by and pick some up or if they can send you some. our closet has a ton of them from CPO cars where we replace the mats but the previous mats had the holders for them.

LOL...same thing here man, i mean it doesnt take much to reach down and pull the mats toward the seat. But i know what u mean, my bros 92 Maxima had things to prevent the mat from creeping up. I got scared the first day i picked up the car, i thought my clutch was sticking, only to realize it was the stupid weather mats.

What a great rant! I still have my velcro mat fasteners in the glove box in the original baggie if you want them.

yeah... unfortunately the people that put them in are often the detail department... who are often some of the lowest level employees at a dealership. as a CA I've had to take them to task a number of times for this kind of dumb stuff. call your dealer if you didn't get the hooks or velcro holders... they should just give them to you. if your dealer sucks and won't give 'em to you send me a PM and I'll see if I can get some to you.

seriously, it took me all of 5 min to put in the velcro placeholders. it's not even worth taking it to the dealer. they should've given you the holders when you got your car. who knows, when you take your car in to complete this simple task...they might end up scratching your rims or something.
definitely not worth the effort and time to take it in to do it. too easy.

I had the same problem. The velcro pads work well, but you must position the mat towards the front of the car, or the clutch pedal will still grab on the way out.

I pride myself on being a bit of a handyman and this is a repair is one I wouldn't bother the dealer with. Obviously, you need to secure the floor mats to the floor boards better. This tool should do the trick.
Next, I'll describe how bird droppings can be effectively removed from your black metallic paint using ordinary sand paper!

Lag bolts are better. Through the floorboard is the only way to really feel they are secure.

Its all good. I looked through everything and didnt see any hooks to screw into the floor. They are normally placed in the glovebox if they arent screwed in?

Hard to say. They may have left them out. I'll bet if you call your dealer they have some they could give you.

My OEM carpeted mats are still in the box, and that's where there'll probably stay for life. They're just too cheesy, but they were free, so what do we want? Probably would go with a bavauto if I cared that much.
But I can relate to the OP. Coming from a Japanese car, the OEM mats were thicker and did not slide, and there was a hole with a grommet-like thingy and a plastic pin holding it in place. That's a car that cost 1/3 the price. So, if BMW wanted to improve it, they could.....not a deal-breaker... |

That happens to me all the time in my s2k as well. At least it was an easy fix to pull the floor mat back.
