Wet Footwell
Does anyone have any idea what would cause water to enter my passenger side foot well? It has been raining today and my wife got in the passenger seat and noticed the floor mat was soaking wet. The moisture extends to the rear seat area but is confined to the passenger side.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

sounds like the rubber weatherseal around the door is leaking..either that or the vapor barrier behind the door panel is torn.
Had any work done in there recently?? |

My Jetta (06 2.0T FSI) had the exact same problem. It turned out to be two different problems, one leak was caused by water coming though the firewall (when it rains) and the other was a cracked condensor box which is part of the aircon. hope that helps. Regards Dan.

I remember seeing another post, 8-10 months ago, with unknown fluid accumulating in the same spot - I think it was water. Don't remember outcome.
Edit - couldn't find it. Last edited by Neurorad; 04-02-2007 at 08:43 AM.. |

the Vapor barrier is a skin behind the door trim panel, which seals door internals. the seal goes bad, or the vapor barrier get's a hole, then water gets in. =)

Could be the AC stuff too.
I had that issue in my week old (then) VW and the stink from it was forever there after that... Somehow the dripping pipe was clogged (on the bottom of the car) and it "dripped" inside... To add: If that was the window seal, you would probably see some traces of water on your door... Similarly with the vapor barrier. Your water thing should be contained to the carpet only, right? |

On a lot of cars, a wet footwell on the passenger side means the drainage for the AC is clogged. I don't know about BMW, but this is a relatively common issue on other cars.

Most likely the vapor seal, as per comments above. This was also an achilles heel on the E46. A/C is less likely as the water is associated with being left outside in the rain. Get this fixed ASAP or your car will end up smelling like a swamp for the rest of its life.
