335d vs M5 e39
i saw a post a few days ago where someone was asking whether there 335i would beat an m5 5.0 v8 and a few people posted there conquests with m5's
i found it somewhat hard to beleive untill yesterday where i found myself behind one 3 times we put our foot down and reached speeds in excess of 110 i think, although i wasnt looking at the speedo i was concentrating on the road, and i stayed with the m5 the same gap (one car length) all the way. I was pretty impressed, didn think it would be anywhere near the mighty 407bhp m5 what do the e39 m5 do over the quarter? could the 335d and 335i chanllenge it over the quarter then? thanks |

I have seen a test of the M5 doing4.6 sec 0-60, 13.0 @108.9 so we know it is not slow.
One of these test wasdone agaisnt the Mercedes 55 and the other one agaisnt a Porsche Carrera. Quote from Road and track : "These cars aren't quick. They're genuinely fast: The M5 blisters 0-60 mph in a 911-like 4.6 sec. The Mercedes stays in the fours by 0.01 of a second at 4.99. The BMW's approximately 4/10 advantage hangs on through the quarter mile (13.08 at 109.41 mph" Link: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...amg/index.html Carlos |

Naw those things so low 13's. Ive seen stock ones dipping into the high 12's. With trap speed around anywhere from 104-109 mph.

Heres the links, of the videos : http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ghlight=e39+m5 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ghlight=e39+m5 Just depends on the car. Some run stronger than others. If your going from a dig, a lot of it has to do with driver error. But I believe the 335d is about on the same time as an average e39 m5 as far as 1/4 mile times go. Higher traps going to the m5 of course. edit : As for a stock 335i and stock m5 in the 1/4 the m5 should win. Just by the trap times. The best I could ever do stock was a 13.53 @ 104.8

13.5 in my stock 335i. A buddy of mine with a m5's best time stock was 13.4 @ 106.8 mph So basicly a 107mph. Hes 2 mph faster than me. From a roll dont under estimate those m5's. They really do come alive from a roll. Like I said if he has a strong engine m5 then he should give you a run for your money. Watch the videos and youll know what i mean. Btw im not stock either.

but ours is stock, totally stock, we only picked it up 3 weeks ago and every time we went from say 40 mph onwards i was with him all the way. Just didnt expect i would be i suppose! also i would have thought it would be the other way round that i might give him a run for his money not the m5 trying to give a 335d a run for its money lol

Im not too sure on bhp. you can do it 2 ways on how much you think the drive train loss is on the 335i.
330 rwhp + 15% or 20% same goes with torque. 370 wtq +15% or 20%

There are too many factors for the results of one encounter or one race. But generally, the M5 should have the edge either from a roll or a dig. I think the main advantage they have(same goes for M3) is their aggresive gearing. I think the biggest flaw of the 335 is their tall gearing, and I understand why it is and the torque helps out a bit, but it hurts it at highway speeds. I think aftermarket gearing is a must for our cars and when they do start coming out, I'll be the first in line....

Its even worse with the manual since it runs i think 3.04 gears and the auto runs 3.41. I was going to just buy the stock auto gears to put on my car. But id rather just wait for someone to come out with 3.62 3.62 I believe would be the best for the 335i
