E90 Car Alarm
Does anybody know the cost of installing the factory alarm in the E90? Or does it come standard now? My dealer says it's not available yet.

I don't think it is standard. The new E90, both models, has some kind of anti theft device, but I don't think it is an alarm like the way I know an alarm. The standard alarm might go off if a window is down and the car is locked, and you unlock an individual door and open it, but I don't know...of course that is all speculation anyway. But I really don't think an alarm with say a shock sensor is standard on the E90, like if someone breaks a window, the shock would cause the alarm to sound. That, if BMW make such an alarm, similar to a viper alarm, is probably the accessory, and I don't know anything about that. Maybe BMW will release more accessory information as time goes on? Good luck.

Maybe the new anti-theft system is passive, so BMW doesn't want to consider it an anti-theft system under formal definitions. |

Its the BMW Alarm, i am pretty sure it is a standard accessory with motion detector that goes in all BMWs. I had one in my e46 and it was installed in my x5 as well. I think its just another module they plug in. They will call me later this week.

I rather get a compustar. Have one in my current car and can't live without one.

I have been wondering the same thing. I haven't seen it as standard or as an option for US cars. It is an option for German models. I can't believe BMW would not offer it at all for the US market? What I find strange is that there is an alarm indicator (red bulb underneath rearview mirrow) pictured in the brochure.
BTW, the one installed in my Mini and 5 series was a factory install, not something done at the dealership, but I'm sure they could retrofit it. |

When I was test driving, I asked about that red-bulb-eye-sore under the rear view mirror, he said its the alarm and comes with premium package. So perhaps standard option will allow the siren to go off if something's opened while armed, but the premium package alarm includes shock sensors, motion sensors, ignition cutoff...etc.
I would just get one of the viper's pager alarm. My friend's car got broken into 3 times before that. Then after he got the pager, he got broken into once. He ran out when the alarm went off and found 4 guys ran off leaving their own car behind! HAHAH. |

It wouldn't explain the price though because usually, for $237, a siren would be included. I also just realized I can't play Mp3s without Navigation... |

I just called my dealer and they said the alarm is not included as part of the premium package. Can someone else call their dealer to check if this is accurate, or someone who's taken delivery with Premium package please confirm?
Thanks. |
