E90 Car Alarm

Does anybody know the cost of installing the factory alarm in the E90? Or does it come standard now? My dealer says it's not available yet.

I don't think it is standard. The new E90, both models, has some kind of anti theft device, but I don't think it is an alarm like the way I know an alarm. The standard alarm might go off if a window is down and the car is locked, and you unlock an individual door and open it, but I don't know...of course that is all speculation anyway. But I really don't think an alarm with say a shock sensor is standard on the E90, like if someone breaks a window, the shock would cause the alarm to sound. That, if BMW make such an alarm, similar to a viper alarm, is probably the accessory, and I don't know anything about that. Maybe BMW will release more accessory information as time goes on? Good luck.

Its either there or it isn't. As an accessory for the E46, it comes with the siren. So either BMW isn't publicizing the alarm in their E90 brochures, or it's not standard. I'll let you decide the answer to that.

Then again, one would have to wonder why its not in the accessories listing.....

I know for a fact there's some kind of anti theft system with acoustical settings because I read the owners manual pdf from this site and that was a menu on the iDrive screen. I just don't know what the anti theft system is.

Then I don't get it.

Maybe the new anti-theft system is passive, so BMW doesn't want to consider it an anti-theft system under formal definitions.

Its the BMW Alarm, i am pretty sure it is a standard accessory with motion detector that goes in all BMWs. I had one in my e46 and it was installed in my x5 as well. I think its just another module they plug in. They will call me later this week.

I'll have to call Pacific BMW tomorrow & see if they have a part number for it.

Thanks!

I rather get a compustar. Have one in my current car and can't live without one.

I have been wondering the same thing. I haven't seen it as standard or as an option for US cars. It is an option for German models. I can't believe BMW would not offer it at all for the US market? What I find strange is that there is an alarm indicator (red bulb underneath rearview mirrow) pictured in the brochure.

BTW, the one installed in my Mini and 5 series was a factory install, not something done at the dealership, but I'm sure they could retrofit it.

Yo-Yo Guys!

Just got off the phone with Pacific BMW:

Part # for the E90 Car alarm is 65120403658.
Price:$237.90 + shipping.

Also, if anyone's interested in the clear protective covering:
Hood & Mirrors - 82110399148 - $121.94
Bumper - 82110399149 - $185.38

(Ouch...they went up!) Happy motoring!

When I was test driving, I asked about that red-bulb-eye-sore under the rear view mirror, he said its the alarm and comes with premium package. So perhaps standard option will allow the siren to go off if something's opened while armed, but the premium package alarm includes shock sensors, motion sensors, ignition cutoff...etc.

I would just get one of the viper's pager alarm. My friend's car got broken into 3 times before that. Then after he got the pager, he got broken into once. He ran out when the alarm went off and found 4 guys ran off leaving their own car behind! HAHAH.

Yeah, I guess it's like in Pulp Fiction..."it would be worth them doing it if I could catch them." I guess the best part is their car was left behind!

Well if that's the case...sounds good.

It wouldn't explain the price though because usually, for $237, a siren would be included.

I also just realized I can't play Mp3s without Navigation...

No, I think it's the other way around. If you get the Navi, you can't play MP3s without the 6 disc BMW CD changer. If you have the standard radio, it will play mp3s.

I thought you need the Professional radio (which comes with NAV), in order to play Mp3s? That's what it says on BMWUSA.

Edit: No, I think you're right! Its worded a bit weird on BMWUSA.

WHEW! I thought I was getting screwed!

I just called my dealer and they said the alarm is not included as part of the premium package. Can someone else call their dealer to check if this is accurate, or someone who's taken delivery with Premium package please confirm?

Thanks.

It is specifically listed in the E90 accessory catalog, and I know my E46 alarm cost about the same.
