Cleaning a DCI

I have a DCI and wondered how often it should they be cleaned? I looked at the K&N Air Filter site and they say to use comppresed air to blow off the filters, then use low pressure water to rinse, and then to oil the filter. What kind of oil should be used?

You can get oil for the filters at auto zone
