Did you search? YOU ARE BEATING A DEAD HORSE lol.

I have the cp-e intercooler and am very happy with it. It also comes with an in-line oil cooler which may be a good bonus given your climate. I'm only running the intercooler part of it and have nothing but good things to say. If you go to their website they have a white paper detailing the engineering put into the design and extensive testing. Pretty damn impressive.

AMS HPF Helix CP-e are all good. Find one that fits your budget and you'll be happy.

I picked up an ETS FMIC. It's really nice and comes with additional inlet and outlet tubing to increase efficiency over the stock tubing that most other FMIC's connect to. It's hard to say if it makes a difference, but it definitely can't hurt.

AMS is my number one seller, followed by ETS. In reality any FMIC will be a huge upgrade over the crappy stocker.

Here is my step by step upgrade path using the Procede v5 Autotune and all ETS Parts. You can see the difference the intercooler made in the upper RPM's, it's definitely work the upgrade! These are all on 92 pump gas

Base Line

Base Line / Procede V5 Autotune

Baseline / Procede V5 Autotune / ETS Intakes / ETS Charge Pipe

Baseline / Procede V5 Autotune / ETS Intake / ETS Charge Pipe / ETS 5.0" Intercooler

Baseline / Procede V5 Autotune / ETS Intake / ETS Charge Pipe / ETS 5.0" Intercooler / ETS Exhaust System

Baseline / Procede V5 Autotune / ETS Intake / ETS Charge Pipe / ETS 5.0" Intercooler / ETS Exhaust System / ETS Downpipes

Thanks!

Yes, but the ETS intercooler has the highest pressure drop of them all. So your turbos need to work harder to make the same boost.

Answer: Any intercooler other than stock! There was a huge thread a year back which compared IAT's.

Ask yourself if you want to cut, use stock pipe, how much you are willing to spend. I went with ER's competition FMIC which they use on their track car. It also came with their charge pipe, which I had meth bungs drilled, a carbon fiber inlet shroud, and a Tial BOV (was cheaper than buying all that seperate).

I thought this was true only for the older cores? ETS Michael want to comment this?

Really?! The reason we may have a slightly higher pressure drop is due to our core design. Pressure drop is not a reason not to buy an intercooler. Below are 2 examples of fin design.

Above is a core with less pressure drop. The air simply passes right through the core as if the fin pack were a tunnel.

ETS Core - The fins are offset and staggered which causes the air to split multiple times before reaching the outlet of the intercooler. This will result in a cooler intake air temp.

ETS Core - Here is a picture of the core outside of the intercooler. This is a good example of an offset and staggered fin pack.

You can tell by looking at the fin pack which intercooler is going to do a better job in cooling

Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Michael

So what does a high(er) pressure drop mean? Theoretically and practically I mean.

Higher pressure drop basically means the intercooler is more restrictive.

ETS Pressure Drop Graph

From the graph you will see the blue line is the inlet pressure and the yellow line is the outlet pressure. WE show an average pressure drop of 1.3psi. This means the turbo is producing 15.09 psi and we are letting out 13.89 PSI. This is not a bad thing by any means. This means that the air is cooling inside the intercooler and becoming much more dense, it's still the same amount of boost it's just once the charge air is cooler it's more compact if that makes since. You will see some intercoolers have less pressure drop, but this simply means either the core is huge and has lots of flow area or the charge air is not cooling near as well.

Thanks!

Michael

What kind of pressure drop does the stock unit have? And other FMICs if someone has the numbers.
