Threaded hole under engine cover

.
I recently had to add a quart of oil. While looking around the oil filter and thermostat for leaks I noticed a threaded hole almost under the engine cover. Am I missing something?

Perspective...

That is a vestigial tail,

Or actually, the attachment point for lifting the engine into and out of the engine bay during manufacture and service (when necessary).

Loosing a quart of oil is not too uncommon for this or any car - depending upon the mileage you get out of that quart. I believe BMW spec is no more than 1 quart every 1000 miles.

So I have heard, but this is first quart I've had to add in 20k miles. Lots of publicity here about oil filter housing gasket leaking. Recently had emissions update done-new hpfp and injectors. Just wanted to make sure she got put back together correctly. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I tried to look at other pics of engines, and tried searching, but came up empty.
