Intercooler or Downpipes??
I'm about to buy either an intercooler or downpipes, the question is...Which one should i get first? O' yea i live is sunny hot as hell south florida.
i'm thinking the intercooler first cause of the FL heat, but was told i would get more horsies from downpipes. All opinions welcome, Thanks one more question, my car doesn't have a oil cooler so does it make sense to buy the cp-e intercooler that comes with an oil cooler attatched to it. Thanks again |

I vote intercooler since you're in FL... I've seen dynos w/ upgraded intercoolers giving about 20 hp just like dps.... or just get both..

It's so hot in Florida right now I was debating the same thing!!! Def get the IC w/ oil cooler though if you do decide on the IC over DP's.

keep in mind that the oil cooler that comes with CP-e is made for cars that already have an oil cooler.

I've been on this site for less than a year and have seen this topic dozens of times. Please search in the future.
I'd vote for IC due to your living in FL, but its up to you really. Here is your choice: IC - cooler/healthier engine, moderate power increase DP - hotter/sicker engine, large power increase

I got downpipes and an intercooler for around $600 Now i feel like they need to go hand in hand ( got the downpipes first, IC 3 weeks later). With DPs there is more heat since you are pushing more power and boost. IC helps keep the IATs from the radiant heat down so they complement each other. Its all about having the right balance of mods, so don't just settle for one thing and stop! but I'm sure you'll keep going haha

I just recently added a CP-e FMIC and AR catless downpipes and my temps went noticeably down 20-40 degrees on average depending on how hard I am driving regular drive 40 degrees hard driving easily 20 plus degrees.
I have an 07 without an oil cooler so i could not use the oil cooler add on so this is all on a car with no oil cooler. Also selling the oil cooler add-on that i have still. |

if you are concerned with warranty i would go with intercooler... i spoke directly with a bmw rep and they said in cases where you live in "excessively hot" climates they wont haggle you on warranty claims for having an intercooler as long as you have stated with them that you have it installed as a "cooling" benefit and not a "hp increase benefit"

I asked this question @ month ago, I found used set of dp's and waiting on ets ic now. I'm installing both in June- B-day present to me!!
Looking into bov or dv's now. Think I'm gonna go with AWE TUNING BLOW OFF / DIVERTER VALVE

i just got both on yesterday. Im gonna have to say FMIC. its awesome how the car still feels totally solid in heat and humidity. wow. totally worth it. then get dp's. oh and get them ceramic coated. these cars run so hot, keep all the heat out of the engine bay that you can

If it's hot in Florida right now the dps wouldn't be a good first choice. They will increase your power output, thus, increasing the heat your engine gives off.. So without the intercooler it might not be such a good idea. I'd say get both!
